Comment:
Grade is made up of four huge tests. One of the most boring classes ever. He doesn't take time explaining and doesn't give you enough practice in class. His tests are way harder than the examples he provides. Very hard to follow. The only good thing is that he isn't a tough grader. I wouldn't take him again, he is monotone and boring.

I found this class to be a lot easier than I expected. He's really clear about what will be on the exam and emphasizes the topics you should study for. Open book/1 cheat sheet rule makes his exams manageable and the tax return forms aren't too complex. I did well with a day's worth of studying for his tests. It's Tax though, so it's a bit dry.

Tax is tough and he doesn't make it much less tough. He is very knowledgeable in the area and the tests are open book and you get one page of notes. I would recommend writing a lot in the book. Tests are rough if you don't study.

I had Professor Carnes for both Accounting I and II. All I can say is he is one of the best teachers I have ever had at Edinboro. That is saying a lot considering there are not many good teachers there. He is a great teacher and explains things well and works at a pretty slow pace to make sure you understand what you are doing. Great teacher!!

Carnes knows a lot, although he is fairly monotone and does make you want to fall asleep in class sometimes. I zoned out a fair amount throughout the semester, but as long as you take some notes and use the textbook to help you, you should do good. Be careful when arguing or asking for help, the result may be frustrating. All in all, easy A.

Carnes is a good guy, I had taken Abadaca or whatever his name is before and that guy was terrible. Compapring the two, Carnes takes his time, he teaches you exactly what you need to know about accounting, there is no homework, and attendance isn't required. He basically makes you do financial sheets over and over again. Easy A.

He teaches at a very fast pace. For students with no business background this class will be difficult. I took it twice with him. I hated every minute. If you can't keep up his doesn't care. The homework is worth no credit but thats what he uses to teach you.

Prof. Carnes does not give homework in this class. He assigns chapters to read. Does not go over them well in class. The information he does hand out is not accurate and when you question him he does not get the correct information. He said he has tenure so no one checks on him and how he teaches!

Goes over all the homework in class and his tests resemble the homework. He can be hard to approach... a bit standoffish even. Wouldn't hurt the guy to throw a little personality in his class to make it more interesting and less intimidating. Knows his stuff, however.

He can be a bit dry but overall he is concerned with making sure you understand the idea behind accounting and how it works. He will clarify if you ask him to without making you feel bad for asking.

Comment:
Tax accounting is terribly dry, but that's the nature of the course. Prof. Carnes doesn't do a whole lot to change that, but he teaches the material as clearly as an unclear subject can be taught. Assigns homework and goes over in class. Tests reflect the homework, but cover a lot of material so you must keep up. Falling behind equals defeat.

has no instruction level....CPA with teacher cert doesnt make you a "Teacher". When myself and other students went for help, just brushed off in a round about way and things were not made clear for us to understand.

I took Tax Accounting with Prof. Carnes and, while it was a terribly dry class most of the time, I learned a LOT. Tax isn't fun, so don't blame the Prof. All the tests are based on homework which is gone over in class. Understanding the material is key if you want to pass. Do the homework and ask questions. The professor is helpful if you try.

I had Carnes for a summer class and the pace was pretty fast so you had to do homework every night. Prof. Carnes does a great job and really knows his stuff. He teaches then gives you homework problems which you will go over the next day. Just do the homework problems over a few times to study and you should do well on the tests. I got an A.

This class is taught by homework examples and I found it very useful. You are given homework problems and can do them in advance or wait and watch him do them in class. It is to your benefit to copy the answers down and follow along. Excellent teacher and real life accountant. I'm taking him for a few more classes. Tests are all by hand!

Not too bad of a professor. You need to have a will to learn accounting. Do the homework and class and tests are cake! Sort of monotoned and class can get kind of boring! Good professor, he'll teach you what you need!

Great professor for the astute student. He is a firm believer in developing scholars (those who are capable of researching and then synthesizing information), so self-studying is big with him. As a contemporaneous practitioner, he provides a lot of insight into the subject matter. Study and you'll do fine.
