Hardest class I've ever taken. She makes you read SO much which some were very unnecessary. There's also a lot of HW. PARTICIPATION MATTERS. I'm a person who doesn't like speaking in front of the class to share my opinions, which dropped my grade to a B. Also, she's easily convincible to take group quizzes as long as the majority of class agrees.

I learned a lot in this course. Professor Masequesmay is really knowledgeable and she does her best to teach her students important life lessons and the history of POC. However, she is a really tough grader and her grading system is a bit confusing. She also loves doing group assignments and quizzes which got on my nerves sometimes. Tough class.

She opens your eyes about Asian American immigration and studies, learned a lot. Midterm is a 7-8 pg paper and final is the final draft of that paper + presentation about what you learned. Extra credit opportunities throughout the sem (participate to get more points). Don't be late, attend class, and quiz info can be found in her powerpoints

Would not recommend taking this specific class with her. Save yourself the time and stress and avoid her. She's a good person, but she's terrible at her job. Could have been an easy class had she been more upfront and clear as to her grading process. My classmates were belittled and/or patronized for their input in class discussions. Avoid her.

She's one of those professors who are sometimes ok, sometimes not. She goes over the lecture really quickly, so you need to keep up. She values her own opinion a lot, so if yours is not similar, she will pretty much make you feel like you're wrong. The main paper that you do is an interview, so you better know someone who is an Asian immigrant.

she is a smart, informative professor, however, she takes all little assignments way too serious. It's a lot of work for taking her class because she will have you read all these articles, watch documentaries, read two different books. Her quizzes are quite challenging, but the good thing is sometimes she let you do it as a group.

Stay far away from this professor! Belittles her students and pretty much makes her goal in life to bully students who disagree with her pedagogy.

Bleh, was an OK class. Attendance is mandatory and this class is heavily based on the readings. Lectures are long and boring. Participation is highly recommended for the points, but I never participated. Requires an interview of an Asian Am. immigrant which is used for the midterm and final papers. Not a very fun class, but not hard to pass....

You will not pass the class if you dont participate , and if you dont know any asians id advise you dont take the class you have to interview an asian immigrant as an assignment. Shes rude and arrogant will make you feel awful if you answer a question wrong

Great professor! She is nice, but also challenges you if you say something ignorant. A lot of readings so make sure you are on top of them so you can do the weekly journals. One BIG oral history project that lasted all semester. There was only 6 people who attended class and this class is hardly offered every semester.

Professor Masequesmay shows an extreme amount of dedication to her subject. She will grade you on your attendance and participation so always stay on top of those two things. You will learn a lot about the subject and our society with her thoughtful insight. This is by no means is an easy course, but is manageable if you stay on top of the material

Great professor. Do your interview early so you can take notes during chapter presentations and know where to reference your analysis for the midterm and final. 1 chapter presentation, 1 group presentation, midterm paper (interview), and a final paper (interview and analysis.

She's not extremely hard but not super easy either. You have to show up to class, pay attention, and read what is assigned. She's really nice and helpful if you ask, and is always open during office hours and is really helpful. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities. Just do all the hw and study for tests. pretty easy class

You will not do well in this class if you do not enjoy reading, since she has you read about four hundred pages. But the readings are interesting and her lectures are too. You're in college! Read the material, learn something! In a time where our tuition fees continue to rise, Dr. Masequesmay makes sure that students get their money's worth

My class were guinea pigs in this QS class. :D It was great! We broke the class in 3 groups and worked on projects that were to help the community: campus tolerance survey, No on Prop 8, Ally training. We had to do 2 presentations based on some reading material with or without a partner. A lot of the readings were copied handouts given to us.
