Dr. Shearer was my favorite instructor. Tests were difficult, but as long as you study a lot not only from lecture slides but from textbook, you will do fine. Quizzes for each chapter are taken on Canvas. He makes class interesting.

He makes any topic interesting to learn. His lectures follow logical flow of information and involve many additional real-life examples. Though this is a difficult course, it is worth taking with Dr. Shearer.

I took him for Molecular Biology (BSC 476/576). He is a great teacher; however, he expects you to know a lot of background material which makes sense being a 400 level class. If you do not come to class, you will most likely not pass. The first test was basically overview of genetics, but the other two test were a lot harder. Study, study, study!!

Micro Phys wasn't nearly as hard as all the other students made it out to be. No assigned reading -- just listen to Dr. Shearer's excellent and entertaining lectures and study a little bit and its fine. Even though one lab experiment was inconvenient, it only met a few times. Bio kids should stop whining; its nowhere near as hard as biochem.

This is the hardest class I took as an undergrad. Tests are very very hard. Shearer is fun and interesting to listen to in class, but this class sucks. The lab might be worse. It is always offered as at night, and one experiment required me to be at the lab to check yeast growth at 2AM two nights in a row. Don't take this course unless you have to.

A hard teacher and a hard class. I wouldn't recommend taking it unless you had to. The lab sucks.
