Comment:
McNitt is definitely not a walk in the park, but his knowledge of the American Political and Gov systems is extensive. He loves to ramble and loves to go off on tangents, but it makes the class a better experience. Sure he's a bit boring, but he's the best of the crop for Poli-Sci. 3 tests, no assignments, and huge curve on multiple choice.

I was very interested in the subject but he will drone on about completely useless information and we get behind. I wouldn't recommend his class, but there are three tests an no assignments so it is simple. It wasn't terrible he just made it dull. To do well you just have to study the charts from the book

Overall, the class is pretty easy. Two tests composed of in class essays and multiple choice, finished always well before time was up. You will learn a lot about the American political system. The only possible issue is he sometimes does get sidetracked talking about political parties but what he has to say is interesting so I didn't care that much

He gets off track too much, and stays on one topic too long with too much detail. his tests are relatively easy, but you must mostly study from the book since he wont cover all for the test in class. He's big on attendance and lateness, don't do it! And he expresses his view through his teaching, warning he's close to communist!

Terrible professor. Condescending, will call you dumb to your face. Way too partisan to be teaching. His assignments are ridiculously abstract and he grades way too harshly. He expects you to be as good as a published scholar and so is very unfair on essays. Avoid at all costs.

seems like a smart guy and he knows his stuff but to sit through his class is unbearable. no real notes and he is very hard to follow. His instructions are vague and you never know how well you are doing in the class until its too late. not recommended!

I like him. Lectures a lot and can get boring, but we have some discussions too which are interesting. People need to understand he is a brilliant guy. Take all the other stuff away and thats what he is plain and simple- brilliant.

DO NOT TAKE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS FOR A GE. It was hands-down unbelievably boring and useless and I could have learned more things about the way the government works by picking my nose and eating it.

His class has a lot of writing for a 100 level class... but he is really smart.. has a really good grasp on political science... i feel like most people that hate him aren't interested in political science... the people that are into it find him more interesting because what makes him cool is the actual extremely interesting analysis he give topics

He's a good guy but the class is dry if you take it for a GE. It's okay to take if you're interested in the major.

Textbook use and Attendance is mandatory - he is a boring professor that like to hear the sound of his voice, he talks for the hour and 10 mins straight through - if you can avoid him, I would advise you do!

Worst professor i had in 4 years at new paltz. He insists on the class sitting in a circle which is supposed to facilitate discussion, yet he literally talks for an hour and 15 minutes. never lets the class out even a minute early, prides himself on never having to miss a class. his opinion is all that matters. questions not encouraged at all.

terrible teacher. he just rants about useless stuff, none of which are on the tests. speaking of tests, his tests are just straight definitions out of the textbook. He shouldn't be teaching.

Prof. McNitt is long winded, but normally very interesting. He is very knowledgeable and a fair grader, and if you pay attention to his monologues you'll learn a lot about how the American government works. Slight left bias and a staunch union man, so be prepared for a few labor rants, but he's a better professor than he gets credit for being.

Very boring, talks the entire class. VERY LIBERAL. Puts down republicans every class. Told the class to vote democrat down the line. A few conservatives had to drop the class. If you want a moderate discription of politics, do not take McNitt!

Good guy overall, older man. Democrat/liberal. I found it hard to pay total attention to lectures, many times spoke of things irrelevant to test material, but still about politics. Multiple choice material comes from textbook mostly, essays from lectures. Seemed like a somewhat tough grader. No work/assignments given at all.

MONOTONE. nice guy and all but grades hard, hardly explains assignments, and keeps me daydreaming. At the end of the semester his sweet demeanor goes straight out the window and you will end up despising him. Running out of class at the end of each period isnt a good sign. One good thing is he gives a list of questions, and two will be on the exam.

Worst teacher ever. I do not have a grade lower than a B+ this semester in all my classes but i am BOMBING this one. Seems to pick grades out of a hat. We had a 12 page term paper. He discussed it in class for 15 mins, never gave material on it and I failed it. He ruined my GPA and could possibly have me on Academic Probation. STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN!
