Funniest guy I know. Is firm is his beliefs and makes lectures very entertaining if you don't mind the language he uses. Test are difficult but nothing a little studying won't fix. I would definitely take his class again. It prepared me very well for other classes I had.

My favorite prof at SOSU. He is really easy to listen to, no dronning monotone, as well as very good at getting salient points across. I will say that if you aren't a history major you may find his tests difficult. He is a big fan of critical thinking and his tests are essay heavy.

Dr. Melancon is a great professor, but if you aren't a history major I don't recommend him because for our first test he made us prepare SIX essays and wouldn't tell us which two he would choose for us to pick one for the test. And thats only a portion of the test. So if history isn't your strongest suit, I don't recommend him.

I didnt think i was going to like the class but Melancon's lecture were very interesting. Just take the notes off the power point and you should have no problem passing, and study for a few days before the test. there was no need for the book. Only 5 questions on the test were from the book, and you can usually get them right

Everyone on here is talking about how difficult his classes are. You're in college for a reason, some classes will be difficult! However, he is one of the funniest professors I've ever had, and actually gets me to pay attention to his lectures. Yes, his exams are difficult but I would without a doubt take him again.

The best professor I have ever had. Makes the lectures go by quick and makes them interesting and memorable. The exams are essay based but he allows you to write essays beforehand so he will look at them and give you input. Always asks if there are any questions and clarifies as needed.

Unlike other professors, this man cares about his subject and what he does for a living. Best teacher I have ever seen and don't mind working hard for someone that works hard for me. Its a priviledge to hear his lectures.

Dr. Melancon was the rudest, most cynical and pessimistic man I have ever mt. I tried to take an Honors Philosophy class with him and dropped it within the first month. He calls people names in class, uses horrible language and makes inappropriate jokes. I would avoid him if possible.

From the comments posted above, it appears he's doing his job better than most of his colleagues, a fact which doesn't escape him, and one he takes great pride in. Excellent professor by any measure.

Had him for History since 1876. He made me interested in history for once. The test is mostly essay, you have to study and you HAVE to go to class. He doesn't care about the students and can be an ass but he's funny at the same time. He's difficult but I would definately take him again for this class. I loved it.

I had Dr. Melancon in 1998 for a philosophy class. I have never written more in my life...until graduate school. I have had little problems since this course...yeah, it was hard, but it prepared me to no end. If you want to go further in academia, this guy will prepare you. Absolutely nice when you get to know him!

The tests are difficult, and be prepared for him to tar and feather anyone in his class who believes in God. Did I mention that he declares himself as God daily? That aside, taking his class is an expirence, and all your classmates will be close because you suffered him together.
