Incredible lectures. Tests have weirdly worded questions from them that may not be originally emphasized, so pay close attention. No study guides but plenty of office hours. He doesn't state his opinions outright but you must figure them out & agree with them in your exam essays. If you don't, you'll end up paying with your grade like others have.

I was skeptical about Ricketts considering the negative reviews he had. Its true hes all lectures but his lectures are always interesting. Ricketts is very well informed and unbiased when lecturing. He always has interesting stores to tell when lecturing. Only 5 grades through the semester, 3 tests, a book report or research paper and the final.

Ricketts is a lecturer, that is the only way you will get the information needed for the tests. The tests are quite randomly selected when it comes to questions so you will really have to pay attention. I thought I was doing at least better than the C I got but his grading is so stupid, for homework he grades them with check marks... what?

He is INCREDIBLY knowledgeable in his field (it's astounding how much info lives in his head). Requires 300 pg biweekly reading (ungraded ugh!). Be warned, Gibbon reading material is dense! Sometimes the lecture notes won't be enough for the tests so read the textbook! Is open to dialogue/questions & is impressively unbiased. Tough class for intro!

Hardest and worst class I've ever taken. Totally uncaring about his students. Only 5 grades over the semester, with required and ungraded response papers every week. Lecture heavy with no visual aid or notes online. Write down everything on the board and memorize it to pass the exams. Incredibly difficult for a 101.

He is a tough grader. The only book needed is the federalist papers. All he does is lectures and you are suppose to learn like that. Write down whatever is on the board. He is the worst professor I have ever had. He is truly no help when you go to his office officers he just says look over your notes.

I enjoyed Professor Ricketts's class. He lectures for most of the class period, but they're entertaining. Pay attention to what he writes on the board and take good notes. Don't put off the semester project, especially if you choose to do the research paper. The federalist readings are hard, but he goes over them in class. Interesting course

Best professor at RV. He is evidently passionate about the subject, and teaches you a lot without making it overly difficult. He gave a few quizzes and one out-of-class essay. Getting an A was straightforward: just pay attention, do the homework, and take notes.

Prof Ricketts can be difficult at times, however, his lectures are very interesting to listen if you're interested in political science and foreign affairs. He knows the subjects extremely well and is very educated. There are only a few homework assignments, however, they may take a while to complete as they involve some reading.

I'm seeing quite a few sour grapes reviews on this page. Professor Ricketts taught my International Relations class, and he was easily one of the best teachers I've had at RV or elsewhere. He's an old-school academic, so show up to class and remember that your lecture notes will be your lifeline. Study & do the readings. If you do, you're good.

I bit off more than I can chew taking a political science class however this man has taught me more than most other professors I've had combined. He's not biased and just gives facts. His lectures go off topic at least a day so write down everything he puts down on the board and memorize it to the letter.

One of the best professors I've ever had the pleasure to be taught by, either in the U.S. and overseas. This is the type of education you might expect at college level and not the dominant mediocrity of most of the classes in U.S. colleges. He's exactly what a university professor is supposed to be: smart, verse in the subject , strict and sharp.

This professor absolutely deserves a higher rating. He is incredibly well-versed in the subject, and is exactly the type of instructor that history professors should model themselves after. He is very professional, while strictly keeping his opinions out of the subject matter. The lectures are broken down very easily. Pay attention, work for an A

His classes are short so he starts his lectures immediately, expect to learn he is very knowledgeable and is interesting. This is college so expect to work, however he is not nearly the toughest most burdensome teacher I've had.

Took this class expecting to know more than I thought, I was wrong and was over burdened by weekly homework assignments and exams (one over spring break) It is like the work load never ends and the weekly amount of questions to be answered usually can not be done in one sitting and I have no clue what my grade is because he does not grade us weekly

he will give you a book to read harder than any shakespeare you have ever read only to offset you from the assignments. do not buy any of the books as he will not care what the book will say at all and it is a waste of money. He does not help nor give extra credit. memorize what he writes on the board. Expect a proffessor who is old and set in ways

Fantastic professor who is very enthusiastic. Has some interesting quirks but by far the best teacher I have had at RVCC thus far. I think he is a reasonable grader and the HW is farily light. He assigns readings which are extremely helpful for the tests but he does not give quizes so you do not have to read them. He deserves a high rating.

What can i say about this professor that has not been said already , he is possibly the worst professor i have taken at RVCC so far. u miss one class, u r in danger of failing. NO HOMEWORK. 3 Test and 1 Paper. Tests are extremely hard. if u fail 2 tests, drop out and save time! His lectures are long and he never lets u leave early. WORST CLASS EVER
