Professor Thurmond is an amazing person. She is so sweet and caring. All her quizzes are extremely easy and you barely have to study. Her class can be boring sometimes, but every journey class is like that. Just make sure you pay attention and raise your hand once a class. Definitely take her!

Comment:

Music of America is the MOST BORING class ever but its the EASIEST 'A' ever. Cant use phones/laptops during class and u get extra credit for perfect attendance, make sure u have busy work/HW to do during her class. Dont need to pay attention/take notes during class, just study the ppts before the exam and do ALL the extra credit bc she offers a lot

This class is an easy A you'd be stupid to not take it. Yes, the class is long and sadly she doesn't let you out early like ever, but there are so many ways to get easy points. She is very lenient on grading. There is only one paper throughout the whole its v easy. One concert report. You have to attend 1 concert at SOPAC but it's free with your ID

Arguably the most boring class I have ever taken. Two and a half hours of listening to the history of american music when I only took the course because the other options weren't that great. The lectures are so mind numbing that it becomes painful. Plus I had to skip work because of a mandatory concert which you have to write a 3 page report.

Dr. Thurmond is an amazing professor and gave us the final exam a week in advance, with extra credit options. Literally enough extra credit to get a 0 on the final and get an A for the class. You do have to study for here midterm and final to pass though, but overall an easy A.

This was probably the most boring class I've ever taken. I had to sit for 2:30 hours and listen to her lecture about the least interesting stuff. I dreaded this class every week and the exams were so easy that It didn't even matter if you went to class, but you would get points taken off if you didn't go to class.

She can talk about absolutely nothing for hours. She talked during the entire midterm, it was impossible to concentrate. BUT the midterm was EXACTLY on what she said it would be, which wasn't much. Her papers are pass or fail, if you do them you'll get the full grade. DO NOT let her see you texting, she'll pick on you to sing solo or to go first.

DO NOT TAKE. She is terrible. She says she cares about her students' grades and tells us not to worry about grades and to focus on learning and embracing music... But it's the last day of the semester and I'm STRUGGLING to get by with a solid B. (I'm an a+ student) I havent learned anything, and got nothing out of this class. Waste of 2+ hrs a week

She is an easy teacher when i had her for jouney to transformation and music. She just talks wayyyy to much and is very boring. She talks so much you cant even get your in class assignments done. She is also stricked on cell phone usage. But if you want an easy grade, take her.

I LOVE Dr. Thurmond. She's a really sweet, understanding woman. I had her for four semesters of voice, and she was always very supportive. She helped me recover from a serious jaw injury and made me a more confident singer.

So she is extremely boring, i could never pay attention in class. texts are soo hard, and gives like a million power point slides to read. BUT she is very very helpful and lenient. Like two exams, a presentation, a paper, and some project. I did well in the class and would suggest her because she is so helpful with the work.

Prof. Thurmond is a music professor who should not have been given a religion class. She could not differentiate between buddhism and hinduism and clearly favored students. Her grading was very inconsistent and your grade very much depended on how much she liked you. Extremely unfair.

Class was usually boring, but that could be because I took the over 2 hour long night class. Her lecturing is inconsistent with the order of the powerpoints and sometimes it's hard to follow. Have to do a lot of reading on your own and tests are all short essay types of questions, which to me was a little more difficult than normal mc's.

I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Professor Thurmond is a very kind and knowledgable woman. Granted, I am a musician, so I found the class to be fairly easy. However, if you are not a music person, it can be difficult. The exams can rough, but there are extra credit opportunities. If you take a class with her, you won't regret it.
