Take Beabout! I learned so much about the world of intellect, but even more about myself. This professor has formed me deeply in how I perceive myself and the world around me. If you can read the homework together with friends it becomes eye-opening and even enjoyable. He is a great professor to approach with questions and thought.

He made you do SOOO much reading and writing weekly for 5 measly points. Not very helpful outside of class & there's no extra credit (I feel like there should be some because of all the work we did & his harsh grading). Its one of those classes you *have* to take because its required but don't take Beabout b/c his class is unnecessarily excessive

I took this class in a lecture format and Beabout made it very clear on multiple occasions that he didn't like the lecture format. I also had a TA who was always very kind and engaging, but who wasn't great at explaining abstract concepts because English was his third language. Boring class, terrible lectures, mandatory attendance. Lots of work.

I took this class as a lecture. Beabout clearly mentioned that his class is not structured the way other intro-level philosophy classes are structured. Two of the biggest grades in this class are papers, which are graded much harder than one would expect of a intro-level course. This class is definitely not an easy A.

I had him in a big lecture and I think he is better in small classes. His lectures aren't relevant to the quizzes he gives, and he goes on tangents a lot. He gives way too much homework and essays for a basic 1000 level class. The essays have to be super in depth and take forever. Would not recommend if you want an easy A.

Dr. Beabout is the professor at this institution which I respect most. He has given me such a deep desire to study PHIL that I have switched my major to it! Materials need to at least be skimmed in order to get most out of discussions. He seems to like when people offer ideas that stem off of his during the middle of his lectures. TAKE BEABOUT!

I loved having class with Dr. Beabout. He was an excellent teacher. Even though I am not a fan of philosophy whatsoever, he made it somewhat interesting. There was never a dull class! He gives a lot of assignments, an can be a bit picky when grading essays, but offers very straightforward tests and quizzes to make up points.

He's a great teacher, overall. Super nice, really funny, and super passionate about philosophy. His passion for philosophy makes class very enjoyable in my opinion. He goes off on tangents a lot, but always wraps class up nicely. Lots of work, but I always left class questioning my life. Definitely recommend. Hard class, but he is great at his job.

I took Intro to Philosophy--Honors with this professor. He was absolutely fantastic. However, this was the hardest class I have ever taken. It is not a blow-off class, but I gained an immense amount of knowledge from his course. He is the greatest professor I have ever had, and you will remember him forever. They should make a movie on him.

Dr. Beabout is wonderful! My computer crashed the morning a paper was due and he was very understanding and allowed me time to rewrite it. He's very knowledgable and likes to tell stories. I took his 3 week summer class and he really tried to help the class as much as possible to get the most of the 3 weeks. I highly recommend him!

Beabout is a great professor! However this is not an easy class. I put in a lot of effort, but I admire him for pushing me to my full potential by his tough grading on essays. I highly recommend taking this professor ONLY IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A HEAVY WORKLOAD IN YOUR OTHER CLASSES. heed this warning. There is a lot of homework and time involved.

Really easy class- just do the readings; recycles quizzes/ exams. Plays favourites, if you really take an interest in philosophy try to keep it to yourself. He's a conventional teacher and not interested in new ideas regarding material he's taught for 30 yrs. Overall, disappointed with discussions and tangents, but hwks/tests were fair and easy.

Had him for ethics and he is a great teacher! He bought us ice cream once because we formatted out request similar to a clip from summa theologia. It would seem that we should not get ice cream. However, it has been said I scream you scream we all scream for ice cream! therefore, we should get ice cream. Learned a lot and loved the class!

Fantastic prof. Made class fun, interesting. For papers, basically just regurgitate what he says in class. More concerned about your learning of the general material than nitpicky details. He's also a very nice guy. Highly recommended.

Great teacher. Tough grader as other comments say, but only b/c he wants you to be clear on the material; communicate that clarity in the papers/essays & you're fine. DO THE READINGS, GO TO CLASS, TAKE NOTES! His lectures spell out the ideas of what he focuses on concerning his exams and papers. He's willing to repeat often so the subject is clear.

Beabout rocks. He is an extremely entertaining teacher. This was my favorite class this past semester and I am not a humanities person. As he puts it, tests and essays are "fastball hard" so you know what to expect, he tells you. Nothing tricky, but a tough grader. I HIGHLY recommend taking him if you have the opportunity.

Tough grader. Subtly makes fun of dimmer students all the time. Mannerisms can get annoying (like the philosopher's mustache scratching). But antics can also be entertaining. Basically wants you to vomit back what he gives you for essays. But very knowledgable.

His class was very interesting. However, he is a tough grader on papers. His exams directly follow the study guides. He can get off topic easily and he likes to repeat himself. Also, if you absolutely HATE being called on in class, you may not enjoy this class. You must PROVE answers to questions and he will drill you in front of the entire class!

I graduated several years ago but I had to post this note when I found this web site. If you are a practicing Catholic and want to be spoon fed some total crap philosophy that reinforces your faith, take this class. However, independent thinkers beware, you will be punished for any opinion that Greg disagrees with.
