He's actually a very clear lecturer and considering the topics he has to teach are not easy to cover and tend to be very boring. He does a pretty good job with explaining and his slides are very useful but you need to memorize everything from his slides- especially the diagrams if you really want to understand

Comment:

It's not that Brown doesn't know what he's talking about, but he reads off of the lecture slides at a pace so slow that 2.5x lecture playback makes him sound normal. Questions on the midterm were mostly based off of what he said in class, not off of lecture slides. That being said, you essentially just need to know every single detail to have hope.

Seems like he'd be a great chill uncle, but unless you're super passionate about molecular metabolism, his lecture style trends toward sleep inducing, the material is dense, and the exams aren't the easiest.

i found his lectures to be much clearer than the other profs for this course more than willing to go back over any topics that the class had trouble understanding until comprehension was achieved adorable in a lovable curmudgeon sort of way

You can easily fall asleep to his voice, but other than that, he was actually a pretty good lecturer! I actually found him quite endearing. His exams were memorization from the slides and they were pretty fair.

Prof Brown... He needs to work on being a bit more engaging in class as it was easy to doze off. I would recommend watching his lectures to get the most out of them. Midterm was also super straightforward and everything came right out of the slides.

Really nice! and he IS funny.. Even though there is a lot of memorization, the way he presents the material is very original (when he talks about metabolism for example he evokes his "tragic past" as a runner etc). Fair exams! Although Pr. Brouhard got more positive reviews concerning his teaching methods, people obviously preferred Brown's exams!

He's a boring lecturer, but knows all his stuff and is very clear... if you listen to the lecture at 2x speed online, you'll get through it! understand/memorize everything (i found memorizing to be difficult, but if you read each step over and really understand the processes you'll do well!)

He's boring, but I mean no one's taking bio because its a fun subject. He teaches clearly and thoroughly, and if you watch recordings at 120% speed you've suddenly got a 3 credit class for the time investment of 2.5!

Never took BIOL 201 but apparently people dont like him in it. Take 316 though... he is super funny and genuinely cares about the students liking what he says and the assignment he gives out (which he marks really easilly). Giant beauty

Would need pedagody class. Biology is not about memorizing enzymes. There is so much more to biology! Asking student to learn enzymes when the subject is rich as biology is pure intelectual lazyness from the teacher to find good questions! He is boring, and knows it, but doesn`t do anything to change the situation: Very Lazy Prof!

Disliked him. He's very boring. He would make mistakes while speaking which made his lectures confusing (mixing up two enzymes he just mentioned, not the end of the world but still). His midterm was fair though. His slides were clear but I would verify with the book whatever notes I took during the class.
