DO NOT TAKE HER FOR JAVA. Her assignments and labs are difficult. The Tests will have multiple-choice and HAND-CODING. Tests are written not taken online. She provides vague and abstract explanations when you ask her. She looks at your Java-Syntax rather than the compiling the code. Spelling, and format are graded. Rude and not supportive in Java..

3 tests are about half of the grade.rest are homework and labs. Lab directions not clearly written but once you understand(email her if u dont) what to do, its not hardShe replies to email and grades at good speed. Took online. Would NOT take her again, even though some of her chapter lessons were decent enough. Found her often unresponsive. She delayed grading my homework. Many of her grading comments were unclear. Overall she had an uncaring attitude.

Very good professor in computer literacy. Lab book is a must have because you have to use it to do hw. 4 tests, 4 thoughts (500 words each) and hw--take a lot of time to finish.

A solid introductory to programming instructor. I found the pace to be a bit slow, although I had prior experience with programming. She speaks very slowly and deliberately, and every class period groups you with a partner,some may get frustrated by the "wasted" time here. She gives you comprehensive notes on the chapters and solid reviews.

I took this class online and found it to be fairly easy. She is very good about answering questions and explaining anything you may have gotten wrong on HW or Labs. The material on the tests is covered through HW and labs, no suprises. Make sure you have the time to dedicate to this class and you will make a good grade.

Was a decent professor for 1436 (C++), but so far I have found her teaching style ineffective for explaining Java. I know Java and OOP is really hard in general, but I think the class structure and professor need to think outside the box. If you take her, make sure to stay ontop of reading the chapters and take comprehensive notes of her lectures

She is a nice teacher but its hard to make an A her labs are easy but the tests are hard. Almost everyone makes 48s and 20s on the test. No one in her class has an A so far except 1 person!!!

Excellent teacher!!! Very helpful and polite. She takes the time to answer ALL my questions, as well as all the other students questions. She encourages students to ask questions. She is a little picky about how the assignments are turned in, but the directions are clear and easy to follow...there is just a lot. EXCELLENT TEACHER!!!! TAKE HER CLASS

Gwen May is an awesome teacher. C++, you have to understand is a difficult language to jump into. If you're going to take this class, I suggest you don't take the online course. There are some courses better learned in the classroom, and this is definitely one of them; especially if you've never learned any computer languages before.

I took this class online, but it seems like this is not a platform she is comfortable teaching. I got through the class however I feel a bit cheated in the sense i didn't really learn anything new. She is fair though and is somewhat tolerant of late work.But there was a month her machine crashed where we laid idle.

Good teacher. she has a passion for her job. i would email her durring the day, way after her office hrs sometimes at night) and she would respond almost all the time. she gave clear answers to all my questions and never scolds you when you ask her about something easy. I would say shes one of richlands top instructors.

Talks very slowly so everyone can be sure to understand her. Wastes a lot of time pairing students up for activities. You do not need the book to pass, she has everything you need in notes she puts on blackboard. It's a skills class, miss too many and you will get too far behind to catch up. Very helpful professor.

I took this class online. The class is somewhat difficult because you have to teach yourself the material. If you don't know anything about programming, I wouldn't recommend taking this class online. I was able to pull off a B -- only because I had a friend help me with the assignments.
