Professor Schmitz is the man. He is so stereotypically German and it is wonderful. He is hilarious, his lectures are engaging, amazingly smart, always gives you multiple viewpoints surrounding issues. If you participate in class and care he will like you a lot and remember your name. Very vibrant personality and easy to connect with.

Very nice but loses it when people are on cell phones; articles aren't necessary but helpful, holds review sessions for mid term and final, huge final paper turned in at intervals, go to office hours with him or the TA's, very knowledgable and experienced in human rights but prefers collaborative learning, so lots of group work

Professor Schmitz is awful. I literally learned nothing, as he spent the semester rambling. In October he asked us what he should teach for the rest of the semester. The average grade in the class is currently a 72. Still, one midterm and a few papers. You also don't need any of the readings to do well.

HPS is the man! He is a tough grader but is super knowledgeable about the subject and is very helpful if you go and see him in office hours. He is willing to read drafts of essays and help you with research. He's also a really great person and cares about his students.

One of my favorite professors! The discussion sections are so interesting, you'll actually want to go to class. Lots of current events and going through step by step what should be in your essays. He encourages you to send in drafts of your essays and will give you all the feedback you'll need. The papers aren't long either- 4/5 pages. Take HPS!

He was a pretty good teacher. His grading was hard on the essays. But, he was interesting and very nice. I tried to meet with him at his offices hours but it was kind of hard because he is so popular (which can be good or bad).

This was my second time with Schmitz, and he's amazing. You get extra credit for not missing class, and if you just do what he says you get the grade you want. If you just go to his office he will make sure you do well in the class. Amazing guy! Human Rights (PSC 300) was better but still try to take his class!!!

HPS is the best professor at Syracuse!!! if his Human Rights class is offered take it! He is probably one of the smartest professors at 'cuse and human rights is his specialty. His tests are really hard but if you go to office hours he will help you and give you opprotunities to make your grade better

Really nice guy, laid back but very knowledgeable about the subject and always brought in material about current events relevant to the course. Really easy to talk to and genuinely wants students to learn and do well! He is one of the most efficient proffessors (in terms of handing assignments/tests back) I've had at SU. I highly recommend HPS!

Among the top five professors at SU. He knows his stuff and genuinely wants his students to learn. He is challenging, but is upfront about his expectations, which are not at all unreasonable. I wish he would teach more classes

There are six unannounced quizzes from the reading and they are kind of hard but only like 8 questions. Otherwise, it's pointless to read the book if all you care about is doing well...just read his lecture notes online.
