After so many years, I still have nightmares of this professor. He is not worthy of such distinguished title such as a professor or educator. He is a rude person. He is horrible. He threw a piece of chalk at me, not only once but twice. I guess part me was scared to report him because of fear. Part me still holds a grudge against this individual.

The only professor I have taken at this college that has actually made me use my brain! But be prepared to work! He has a dirty sense of humor, but it helps when you're reading boring books. Don't take White if you just want to sit and do nothing, and don't expect to not come to class and get a good grade. Go to class, take notes, and work hard.

If you keep up with the readings and know what you're doing as an English major, this professor is no problem. He's not much for feedback but man does he know his stuff. Class discussion is barely there but he teaches great books.

The worst teacher I have ever had!!!! Not only did I read all the books he assigned, but when I took the exam, not only did I fail,90% of the class did too!!!! I was used to getting A's in all my English courses, but now thanks to this old fart, I failed the course. I should have dropped when I had the chance. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!

I was a little hesitant to take this class after reading the comments. Yes he makes no sense, has no structure, makes you want to write an angry letter of complaint, and seems angry at life. However, all he asks is that you read the books and write knowledeably which is valid. Overall if you do what you have to do you will do fine.

Hands down the worst professor I have had in my college career. The syllabus was a list of the books with no dates to go by. Rants about livetext like it's his job and stops classes early when he gets bored. Got my 1st of 2 grades on the drop(date which is so late at NEIU!)and would have dropped if I would have known what bs was to come.

This class was a waste of time. We did not receive our first paper until mid October. He failed 75% of the class. He is unfair. There were no comments on the paper as to why the students fail. He does pick on students. He said that all he gets paid for is teaching and thats all he cares about. Want to fail, or get a low grade take his class.

Has strong opinions, jokes a lot, very dry sense of humor. Practical realist. Seriously, anyone who complains about him is probably either conservative or an idiot who can't write in English. He's not a tough grader, he just expects you to be intelligent and read the books, which is too much to ask for some people.

A legend in his own mind. He is a trickster, not a teacher by any means. May lose your paper when it suits him. Uses ancient notes that are from his grad school days. Not a human but some kind of thing.

He may be a smart but he doesn't clarify what he's looking for on tests or papers. He only uses three things to get your grade: the midterm, the paper and the final. His grading is unfair and his questions are out of nowhere. He values class discussion so be ready to get involved. He makes you feel dumb and will call you it it if you are wrong.

The literature he chose for class promised that the course would be wonderful. The lectures were insightful, though unfortunately immersed in more information about what was not going well with him and the faculty than about the lit. Did seek help to make the paper one that would have the fresh slant that he requested and received no help from him.

White is one of those guys who still brags about the days that he was at Northwestern University and studied with Clenth Brooks. He likes to play the hotshot--but there he is, unprepared for class, rambling off unorganized information he learned 40 years ago, having read no recent research, arbitrarily grading, at a mess of a college. Depressing.

Grad. Students Be Ready.Unlike all the other profs. at NEIU, Dr. White's seminars are real graduate seminars. The students do the work. He does not lecture. If you want a real graduate level experience take his seminars. You will learn much from him, unfortunately not much from the average NEIU student, who has no idea how to do real graduate work!

I thought Russian Literature would be enlightening. However, the class was a bit on the boring side. While Prof. White has a great sense of humor, and a vast wealth of knowledge I found the class a little deadening. His midterm and final are quite difficult, in the sense you are sure what he wants. Overall, I think it is time for him to retire.

I would not recommend this proffesor at all! He beggan the 1st day of class on how this class was pointless & that the school was stealing our money. We basically didn't do anything until 1.5 months into the semester when he says we will take a midterm in which if we didn't pass we were idiots. 75% of the class failed and we are stuck paying $500.

This guy is generally misunderstood. He has a wealth of knowledge hidden under a cloud of anarchy. Despite being regularly confused on his expectations, I enjoyed his lectures (as weird as they were) and did learn quite a bit. He was also very approachable in office hours. Down side- whole grade is based on midterm, final, and one term paper.

He's a picky grader but I enjoyed his class overall. The readings are good and he definitely knows what he's talking about. He does like to tease his students but I don't think he means anything by it. I would recommend taking him if you're interested in English literature and if you don't mind working hard for your grade.
