I would not take this professor ever again. An older, funny guy but HORRIBLE professor. Knows the material but can't teach at all. Has no schedule or plan for anything. Exams are very hard because you don't know what is going to be on them and what they cover. Class is very boring and hard to follow. Would do my best to avoid him at all costs!

Here's the truth. The guy is not interesting AT ALL!!! He only uses a marker a board and his mouth, no joke. NO blackbaord, no power points, nothing. Be prepared to read the book multiple times because his lectures are not very clear. AT ALL!!! The material is boring and confusing, if you can stand him to ask questions after class then do so. AVOID

No consistency whatsoever. Lectures are impossible to follow (if you can call it a lecture), no proper grading system, 6 research papers graded as if you were submitting a report to phd level peers. Absolutely ridiculous class. You will not get the grade you expect, I promise.

I loved him. I hate classes that make me feel like I am still in high school, so his course was a great refresher. He really made me think and I would take him again over and over. If you don't want to do work, don't take him. It's that simple. He is very knowledgable though, and very fair. If you don't care, it shows. Give him some slack! Geez...

Likes to focus on his past, he makes you read some of his reports. Loves talking about rats. Strays from the topic a lot. He tries to make jokes that aren't funny. Likes to talk about a lot of things that "are before your time". Most of the content of each class is about the same things for several consecutive lectures. Not an easy grader at all

If you want to take a class, any class, where time has stopped moving sign up for Harvey Armus. I'm pretty sure he is angry that his rat shocking paradigm died in the early 60s and he's going to take it out on anyone who suggests otherwize... stopped caring long ago, since he's tenured and a full professor, there is nothing anyone can do about it.

i would NOT recommend this teacher! he should be retired. he doesnt write anything on the board..or if he does its a rat and makes no sense. his tests are over 6 chapters and then are 3 essay questions...he doesnt give out percent grades..just A, B, C, etc and is very hard to follow!

Dr. Armus holds his students to a very high level. Before taking his class, evaluate yourself. If you are a weak writer, and have an inability to clearly express yourself, you will have a very hard time succeeding in his class. He doesn't like writing with a lot of fluff. If you are more analytical, I think you'd do well with him.

Does not suffer fools. To the person who had the Freud presentation - I was in that class. It wasn't that he didn't like the presentation - NO ONE liked the presentation. Freud doesn't merit 6 pages and 2 1/2 hours in a history of psych class. And learn how to write professionally - "b/c" is embarrassing to see from a graduate student!

Although others discouraged me from taking any classes with Dr. Armus, he turned out to be one of my favorite profs. He is to the point with no screwing around. He can be critical, but it is constructive. If you are sick of the spoonfeeding that occurs in most college courses, he will definitely offer a change of pace.

If you were one of the people who made your statistics professor explain the difference between "alpha" and a "p" value for over an hour, you'll fail this class. If you're actually somewhat intelligent outside of a book, this guy actually makes sense and can be very amusing. He appears mean, but he's just joking. Laugh at him and dish it back!

I liked the guy for sure but I question his grading. I think he wants to be the only psychology prof who doesn't want to give out too many A's. But overall he does try to help if questions are asked. Few tests and all are essay!
