Comment:

This is honestly the worst teacher Ive had. There are no lectures for this class, only experiments. (The experiments are every single day, so if you miss one day, youre in trouble.) The tests are long answer, so very difficult without a lecture. Often makes you do more than 1 experiment at a time and doesnt offer extra credit or makeup work.

Absolutely awful. Goes through the content so fast and rushed, if you space out for 30 seconds you will miss an entire lesson. She is horrible at explaining and just expects that everyone is an expert in biology. Her ta's can be helpful, but it seems like they all look down on the people that don't get things as quickly. I would avoid her class.

The Texbook is a packet of notest that she has written VERY HELPFUL I recommend getting it. ALL TEST ARE OPEN BOOK/NOTE TESTS!! When she Lectures as long as you take good notes and write everything down it is pretty easy. There is also plus group for this class if you need a little extra help.

The lectures are all off a power point, and most people just copy them word-for-word. There are 4 exams, you can use any notes or books, the final is not accumulative. Going to the PLUS group helps a ton! Only complaint is there are NO excuses for missed labs. I got a 0 for being switched into her class a week after the quarter had started.

As you know 100 classes are basic and usually GPA boosters, but this class is not, its a GPA reducer. She teaches general knowledge of biology, but her tests are all short answers and extremely hard. Her tests are based on applying knowledge to stuff in the world that she doesn't go over. With almost every1 @ a cd no curves. Hate her.

Lectures have nothing to do with the questions on tests. All tests are short-answer responses (not enough time in class to finish them all). Allowed to use all lecture notes on tests, but they won't help you whatsoever. Attend class everyday she asks questions at random to be turned in for points. Hard grader on tests, does not try to help you pass

don't take her class. this is for elementary ed but she teaches you to teach yourself. she also expects you to know all of the material previous to class. I had a 3.96 GPA and i can honestly tell you this class is not worth it and it will lower your GPA. she is a tough grader and doesn't care about you individually. the class is chaotic.

I recommend you never take this class with Heather Mckean, she is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. She doesn't explain anything to class and has way to much going on at once, she will teach you something 2 minutes before you need to leave class and expect you to do a assignment on it at home and turn it in the next day. worst teacher

If you pay close attention in class, you'll do well. Lots of people don't do too hot because they don't get help outside of class. Heather does seem like a hardass during class but in the office she's very nice and approachable. She will set you strait if you're willing to meet her halfway. The textbook is also just loose leaf. Professor Mckean is intelligent. BUT, she gives WAY..WAY too much work, with no regard to the fact that many college students work while attending school! Inquiry methods work only with those that already have a very in-depth knowledge of science.

I recently took a summer class in BIO 100 to fulfill a general requirement. Prof. McKean encouraged us to use Biology in everyday situations, and was clear and concise in her explanations. She is a doll, with all the answers readily available to anyone who takes the time to ask.

I have to say this is one of the absolute worst classes I've ever taken at Eastern. Heather McKean is very smart but doesn't know how to conduct her information well to students. She's always scatter-brained and has WAY too much planned every day that's it's almost impossible to keep up with everything! Try to avoid having her as a teacher!

if you are lazy dont take this class! it is a lot of work but she is very helpful if you take the time to talk to her. the class was intimidating at first but i would definately take this class again or any others from mckean. dont get me wrong, im not some science nerd but it was nice to actually learn something
