He was a very tough grader, the test are worth 70% of the course and in this lab heavy course the labs are only worth 10% of your grade. For lectures he just writes VHDL code on the board with no explanation. I know less about digital logic after taking this class than before it!

Not very personable/nice to students. For 311 he was a great professor. For lectures explained every problem clearly and thoroughly. Mandatory homework almost every week. Test were hard, but questions were out of the book For EECE343 lectures were also great, but labs were horrendous as his lab instructions were VERY vague. Tests were easier

Dr. Ma is well known at Chico for being the worst engineering teacher Mecha's have to take. He has a reputation for being the number one reason students switch from EE or Mecha to ME or something else. He uses the students manual to teach and verbally abuses students to the extreme. He called me an idiot for not understanding his pet subject. Avoid

For having a PhD in electrical engineering, he sure is stupid. He has to use the solutions manual for lectures and when it's wrong he gets lost and can't complete the lecture. He belittles students and verbally abuses them in front of the rest of the class. Tests are ridiculous and he doesn't actually know what he is teaching. AVOID AT ALL COSTs.

Horrible professor. This is my 2nd time taking this class from Ma, and nothing has changed from the 1st time - insults students in class and during office hours, follows the solution guide for explanations, and overall grades are based on heavy weighting for low-point possibilities. Ex: Midterm out of 30 points total, worth 20-30% of your grade.

He has some Chinese accent. But I speak Chinese, so I have no problem to understand what he is talking about in the class. One good thing is he explain the homework problem before the due day, so you should not miss any problems from homework. And dont argue with him in the class, he will blame ur previous Professor was misleading you..lol

Dont miss class, ask questions. The class is hard and somehow he makes it easy. I wish I had more professors like him. Dont bug him much outside of class but if you catch him right after class its ok. ASK QUESTIONS IF YOUR CONFUSED AND HE WILL EXPLAIN.

Do you agree? Maybe not... One thing about him is that he teaches at his own pace, frequently getting distracted and out of point, rather awkwardly with his crazee scientist laugh. But all in all he's the only option for this class and learning from him might not be a smooth flow but if you listen to his "just-follow" rules the class can be easy...

Very wise guy, a little hard to understand but by the end of the semester you can get through the accent. The textbook was useless for the HW prblems in it. Dr Ma expects you to all the HW without any doubts, for he will help if you need help and he will not grade kindly on the test because he expects full understanding. not a hard class overall.

"Do you agree"? My roommate and I kept a tally on how many times he said that during the semester. Needless to say, I was never sure if I should agree or not because he is hard to understand with his accent. Grades harshly on test/exams (i.e. no partial credit), lab was confusing, "radio" project was easy because he let us buy our own kits.

He is a great guy, despite his english he teaches good. Homeworks are pretty straightforward. Don't piss him off in the class, otherwise he shows the meaning of the world in the exam (I mean hard as a rock). Don't ask too many questions and don't show up in his office too much. Just make homeworks, do easy exams and get your A :)

Bad teacher! Flat out does not care about students at all ever. He seems very caring and helpful in class but if you see him outside of class he will flat out ignore you and do whatever he can to get you out of his office.

Easy going. However, he doesn't really teach. He either is lazy or doesn't really care. For example, his tests are exaclty like the homework, which is exactly like his examples in lecture- you don't have to think or really learn. Beware though- he can be inconsitent. My 355 final had nothing to do with the homework and threw everyone for a loop
