Comment:

I took classes with Hedy for all four years at UNC 92-96. She is renowned for her strong, opinionated style. As a conservative woman who has a passion for sociology, she and I disagreed quite often all four years! Loved her classes, loved the debates; worthwhile and formative. I was graded fairly and I argued my point. I miss Hedy Red Dexter.

She comes off very strong, and is extremely opinionated. For the first 2 weeks, no one in the class spoke, even though it was a 3 hour long class; she is a bit intimidating. However, she is very knowledgeable and once she weeds out all the slackers her class becomes interesting.

Dexter is amazing! She is unlike any professor at UNC. She is engaging and she is very intelligent. Intimidating at first, I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants a change in the typical powerpoint/lecture class

First off => No final, no tests and essays are all 2 paragraphs or shorter (as of spring 2010). Dexter is candid and combative in teaching style. If you can form a coherent argument you will excel. She will express her views without reservation and is progressive in political persuasion. She is well educated and informed.

I don't even know how she can be considered a relevant teacher. Her class is horrible, it seems to never end and is used as a platform for her agenda. She fosters an extremely hostile learning environment. Wahtever you do, do not take her classes unless you are weak minded and wont disagree with her

If you are capable of regurgitating what she says and using examples she gives....she will read your papers outloud in front of the class. You can disagree with everything she says and still get an A if you just tell her what she wants to hear and use a few big words.

Amazing professor. The only people who seem to have any problems with her are people who refuse to acknowledge that things like racism, sexism, and homophobia exist. She does listen to differing viewpoints, but she will openly disagree with you. One of the best profs I have had at UNC. Don't go in to her class acting like a bigoted jerk.
