1974. Among my greatest influences. This inspiring professor changed me. I'm now an active research mathematician at a major university. Professor Schankula gave me my first glimpse of scholarship. (He once wrote on my paper, "Surely you just jumped off the deep end!" Huge in my life, yet he would not remember me. )
