I graduated 2 years ago. Venema was the most amazing prof I had at Messiah. This guy can teach and understands that philosophy is the exploration of life, warts and all!

Almost the whole grade is based on 1 paper which he does a poor job of explaining his expectations. There are movies he requires that you watch every week out of class. He usually shows them in Parmer. Felt like a waste of time. Amazing the stupid things he pulls out of movies he calls Philosophy

Venema is a great prof. No doubt about it. If you are a freshmen still clinging to your youth group-type theology, wait until you have grown out of it until you take a class from Venema. If you don't, the challenging concepts he unleashes may hurt your soft brain and cause you to bleed from the ears.

Easy grader, but lots of reading. I hated most of the books. Watched alot of movies (rated R-if you don't want to see much violence, sexuality, and/or harsh language, this class is not for you). Very unclear on homwork. However, I would not say don't take him, just know what you're getting into.

Dr. Venema is a breath of fresh-air here at MC. One of the few professors that I can relate to. He is genuine. His unique humor and insight make class enjoyable. The class was valuable and I learned much. Through Dr. Venema, I have gained an appreciation for philosophy. I will be in modern.

One of few professor at Messiah who's lectures are actually interesting and helpful to learn. He is a bit crazy and admits that but makes him even funnier than he already is. I hated philosphy and sucked at writing but will probably get an A cuz hes not a hard grader and is clear on what t know

Dr. Venema humorously invokes the sexual metaphors of the flux and the difficulties of life in order to demonstrate the beauty of our experience. His teaching is challenging and transforming - Continental completely changed the way I look at the world.

Good class, definately different then a typical class. Writing isn't too bad. There is a lot of reading. The movies are a bit different. Class discussion is fun.

Venema is an easy prof for Writing Intensive, but you would learn more from someone else. This class revolved around watching movies (outside of class time) and discussing them. Somewhat eavy reading, not so bad writing. Strange man.
