Hester was a good teacher in lecture, but refused to help when asked. She would never clarify for me and it made the class very difficult as I was taking it for a GLER. She kept relating everything back to her research, and assuming she was going to say something about it on the test due to the amount she spoke about is a very bad thing to do...

As an introduction to a multitude of majors there is an enourmous volume of material covered and Dr. Jiskoot does a good job of cutting through it all with enthusiasm. Be prepared however to do the required reading the textbook as there simply isn't enough lecture time to cover all of it. Exams are straightforward.

In order to do well in this class you can't skip. I found this course fairly difficult for a 1000 level and sometimes its hard to understand what she is saying. Make sure you know the material well before the tests.

Fairly easy GLER class. Her accent can take a little bit to get used to. She drops hints for the exams, so coming to class is helpful. Adding your own notes to her slides can be helpful too, since they are not all that thorough sometimes.

She's extremely enthusiastic about what she teaches even if the material can be quite dry at times. As the course goes on, the amount of memorization gets a bit cumbersome but that has more to do with the intro level course than her teaching style. She's very friendly and approachable and will put in an earnest effort to answer your questions.

Demands some insight and not just memorizing. Strange sense of humour, but an interesting enthusiastic prof. Good slides and good analogies.

Her lectures are pretty dry, but you can clearly see her passion. If you're taking this as a 1000 level GLER...I guess it isn't toooo bad :/ Her tests are kinda tough: she goes through a lot of material but not a lot of it shows up on tests, hard to figure out what to study. Overall she isn't that bad I suppose.

Hester is extremely passionate about what she does, and I found her enthusiasm contagious. Her class required a ton of effort but what I took away from the class was well worth it. Her lectures are interesting and she posts all her slides so you can sit back and just listen rather that scrambling to take notes

If you have an interest in Geography you could probably make it though this class. But, my interest wasn't very strong and I slept in on my geog. days. She covers a lot of material, yet she does not put the majority on the tests. I didn't study for any of my tests and came out with a C. She really loves what she does, but I couldn't get interested.

One word to sum up this prof: "...meh". Classes are pretty boring, but you can tell she's really into what she teaches. Exams are pretty tough for a first year course, but if you put the time in it's not to difficult. Recommended.

Kinda difficult for a 1000 level course. She blows through a HUGE amount of material in a short time and expects you to know it all. However, on her exams, there's maybe ~40 questions and lots of your studying doesn't appear on the exam. The questions themselves are worded somewhat poorly and are often pretty tough. Be prepared to put some work in.

Decent prof. Her exams are kinda tough. She covers a huge amount of material in lectures but only asks a few questions on the exam, so you have to study for all of it but only a portion appears on the exam (many questions are worded strangely or just plain hard). However, if you put a decent amount of work in, easy class.

Wow. Her WebCT tests were worded very poorly and were often difficult to understand. It was nice that she posted all her notes on a class website. Overall a boring class.
