Comment:

This was the worst class I have ever taken. If you want to listen to someone question Catholicism at a Jesuit University, or if you like to take free electives in which a professor does not give you any insight into what will be on his test, or if you like someone who is a ridiculously tough grader, then take this class. Otherwise, avoid.

I absolutely hated this class. I was excited for the literature before beginning. He was impossible to please. He would ask students to participate and then go on half hour lectures without allowing you to jump in. (I love class discussion more than anything and by the 4th week I was too apathetic to bother talking.) I would not recommend him.

He was boring, uninterested & filled with empty ideas. For this class, he wouldn't stop complaining about organized religion and Catholics. I'm agnostic, but still couldn't stand him airing out his atheist convictions in class. He's narrow minded & knows nothing about the religions of Asian peoples which is relevant to the novels in this course.

Oh my goodness! Prof Hill was one of my favorite teachers at the University. I am so sad to read these poor reviews. Either he has changed or the "student" has...My favorite classes were his poetry workshops on Tuesday nights.

He is a really bad professor. He lectures the entire class and is boring. He is either criticizing the students or asking why we dont participate a lot in his boring class. He is an impossible grader and unfair. He will tell you to see him during his office hours but it wont make a difference!

You will regret taking this class he is a terrible professor and grades horribly. He judges everyone and he thinks poetry is the most important subject in the world. He is an unfair grader and is very arrogant bc he says he is a senior professor and he will never lose his job!

The worst professor I have ever taken. The class average on papers in a C he has his favorites and he is always criticizing our generation. He thinks he is better than everybody and thinks poetry will save the world. IF you are not a poetry major do not take this class take intro to fiction instead I heard good reviews for that class.

Advanced Composition: He puts so much time and effort into responding to, and commenting on, your essays. His teaching made me a much better writer. Be sure to attend class, be prepared to discuss readings, give intelligent input during peer workshops (really helpful), and be prepared to look at your own work critically. I really learned from him.

I think he cares about the students progress more than he likes to admit. He can be somewhat intimidating. I guess thats good because it gives you a taste of the real world. He expects alot from you. This guy is looney. It's the worst class in all my 4 years at the U. He gives quizzes and blue book tests that are impossible. The average grade in his class in the past is B-. So if you don't want your GPA killed, avoid him.

We read Stephne Akey's memoir College. This is the saddest and funniest book ever written. You will connect to it. Hill was OK. I think I liked this book more than Hill. In fact I liked this book more than the course.
