This Professor is the reason why the Econ Department is stuck. He DOES NOT speak english, he DOES NOT teach at all! Worst of all, he has the worst cocky attitude with the students and constantly wants to call americans stupid. If you want to learn, dont take his class, unless you already know the subject and HAVE to take his class

If you care about learning more than you do about grades, take him. Never had a professor that demanded more of his students but it was great for the kids who took it as a challenge. Go to office hours in order to well. He really is a good guy but he's very intense. Suitable for some students but not for the lazy ones.

Definitely take his class if you are really into mathematically intensive economics works. DO NOT miss class because he takes attendance very seriously. If you're thinking of graduate school, take his class. Term paper gives you the flexibility to write anything you're comfortable with, but make sure he approves it first.

I liked this course. very challenging, it really broadend my perspective of econ. The grade was 5% attend, 25% midterm, 20% assign, 50% final, curved. Got 54 on the midterm & assign ave was 62, ended up with a B+. Weekly assignments take an entire day to do, & he grades hard. Great intro to linear programming/algebra. recomend 4 serious student.

Too much work for too little reward. Not enough feedback. Lectures and assignments have almost nothing to do with one another. It seems like he just teaches on a whim with no direction for the course.

Comment:
Horrible^3. 10%atten, 30%assign, 60%termpaper. If you fail any of those, you fail the course. Econometrics heavy, & lots of irrelevant course material. 60%-70% of the material is unrelated to Japan, and he doesn't care about his students. Sucky "class discussions". No student can even precisely describe the econ of Japan after this course. DO NOT.

Incredibly hard class. Tsurumi will kick your ass, just because he can. His lectures at times appear pointless, but you will learn alot. He does not appear to give above an 80, even if your hw answer appears in his answer key! The class appears graded on a bell curve, so if you stay ahead of your class, you can pull an A.

Simply put stay away from his classes. He is an unfair grader. Giving failing grades to just about everyone. He does not teach a thing. Instead he tells you to look up the answer on "google". There is no text book, he brings in random passages. This is the most unnecessarily hard and unfairly graded course that you can take at rutgers.

Do not take...Period. The class is not about Japan at all. Turns it into a math class, with research papers and projects. The name of the course is misleading. Very bad teaching style.

Very demanding, attendence, tough assignments, and a hardcore term paper. He's a hardcore economics professor, no games here. Class gets enjoyable late in semester. Focus is not entirely on Japan, but major themes of Japanese business. Most hate the class. What can I say? It's hardcore.
