Comment:

Obayashi has a heavy accent but is understandable, and tries to be funny. Exams rely on the book but are tricky; final isn't cumulative and there is extra credit. You have to sign in at the end of class, but you can show up in the last 10 (not 5 because sometimes he ends early) minutes and still sign. Slept through every class and got a C.

Incredible professor, the best I have ever had. I love this class and I love the way it was taught. Easy to understand powerpoint with an organized layout for each topic. The exams are pretty easy and all the answers come straight out of his mouth during lecture and the textbook, no surprises at all. Just listen, read, and study, it's not hard.

He is a really smart professor that helps you think about religion from a very different perspective revealing many of the similar purposes and philosophies between even the most diverse religions. Exams are difficult but if you read the book you'll be fine there's a big curve. Big problem is that its 1st period

Really difficult tests. Fulfills a lot of SAS requirements. Huge curve. Read the text book intensely. Attendance is mandatory-it will help your grade in the end. Morning class and he's SO boring. You MUST read the book. Bombed the first two exams and got a B. I don't know how, considering I was failing for a while. Good luck, poor unfortunate soul.

DEATH AND AFTERLIFE: he seems so nice, but once you take his tests.. WOW. so impossible, even studying you're lucky to get a c! honestly the exams are SO HARD, hopefully there will be a good curve, but he writes text questions so hard you cant even understand it, & theres questions about stuff never learned about in lecture or in the book!

Is his class hard?? it doesnt seem hard when you are just sitting through the lectures.,but when u see that first exam...BOOM it just hits you. theres soo much material that he put on the exam and doesnt even tell you where to study from.overall a hard class..but if u like studying then go for it. for the love of god do not take this class if you want to keep your sanity and GPA. i read these ratings and thought to myself.. ehh how hard can a 100 level class be. trust me this man is the devil himself he will not help you if you go to office hours and exams are close to impossible. i was a ccd teacher and this man explains things so bad. RUN!

Obayashi is a good professor but the material that is required for the class can be very boring at certain points. His Exams are essay format and is not so strict when it comes to grading them. Attendance is very important- he will count it as a test grade at the end of the semester.

8:10 am lectures = death, worth it. Good lecturer- easy to understand-didn't experience any accent issues. Problem is multichoice tests-> HARD. had to read text as if life depended on it (sort of did). Did poor on the 1st tests and quizzes, C/D range. Somehow by the grace of God ended up with a 90 on final. That + huge curve = A. Thank goodness.

go to every class. attendance counts as a major grade so that will boost your final grade up. all powerpoint lectures with interesting pictures. 60% of the course is actually an overview of religions, then their view of death & afterlife is explained. tests questions are worded complexly, so even if you know the material, don't expect a high B or A

I just started this class and already I find it fascinating. The Professsor, contrary to what others may say, is very engaging. Yes, he has a thick accent, but an interesting accent nonetheless. The textbook seems vital to success. I imagine the tests may be tough. However, his lectures are very interesting.

Go to class. You lose something like 4 points everytime you don't, and it'll bite you. Tests are right out of lectures/readings, mainly lectures. However, said lectures are incredibly boring. Look forward to spending most of the class counting the minutes left.

His accent is thick, but you get used to it quickly. Sometimes the lecture is boring, but he really gets into the interesting parts. Be warned, this was an 8:40 AM class for me, on MF, so you might be sleeping because of Thursday night beer pong.
