I took Arts and the Child with Hirsch, before Rate My Professors existed, at TESC in the mid 1990's. I am working on my bio for my new website and I realize my in my 40's was strongly influenced by this course. I am a perinatal and wellness professional. Hirsch is a an amazing prof. He creates community, and savors curiosity, and inspires.

Comment:
Hirsh is not a typical style teacher. Keep in mind, folks, he has a PhD, and is a very journeyed person. He is not an A + B = C type professor. If that is what you are looking for, he is not it. If you wish to compare mythology, culture, and philosophies amongst each other to better understand the universe and yourself, find this man. He is wise.

Hirsh is perfect for you if you don't want to learn anything. It was great for me when I was in my "slack-off" phase, but I soon grew tired with the lack of stimulation.

Comment:
Hirsh is a horrible professor. He is consistently inconsistent. He acts as if he is open to interpretation on assignments but when it comes time to turn things in he has a specific direction in mind that was never voiced. He assigns tons of busy work. I literally learned nothing from his class due to his lack of direction.

I had a lot of fun in his class, taking walks on the campus, doing minimal work and writing fun essays. It was a nice break from the difficulties of a normal college course. Hirsh is really interesting! I recommend him!

Hirsh is the only person you can look at the stars with and get lost. The ideas about childhood development along with the epistemological world of college created a curiosity that prepped the mind of this freshman.

Hirsch has this class organized very well. He teaches it pretty much every quarter. I recommend Cornerstones to everyone. There's only one book. The papers are only 2 pages, and once a week. You start the class with Tai Chi. So it's pretty Evergreen. But other than that it's normal.

Hirsh is a super nice guy but extremely disorganized. The class was not college but fun. Didn't learn much.

I took his Cornerstone Class. It's a very good class. And Hirsh is a really great teacher. He assigned about a paper once a week, and we read one book. The papers had really easy topics, so it wasn't too hard. Everyday we did a little Tai Chi at the begining of class. I enjoyed it, but a few people in the class didn't, so they would just come late.

Hirsh is such a great evening teacher at Evergreen. He is so laid back and truly content with life. His class was clear and well thought out. He teaches you a lot, but he also tries to gain something from you as well.
