This is the cutest old man ever. However, lab and the book is how you learn his material on the tests! He teaches whatever he talking about in his lecture very well, however the notes you take in lecture are really only about 30% of the test (at least it was that way this semester). Study hard - you may get an A.

While a good teacher, you never know what is about to pop up on his botany tests. Oft times he drifts in and out of the topics at hand, sometimes going into seemingly related but unimportant stories. The best way to pass the only upper level botany teacher? Lab. Take notes in lab and learn there. Class notes help, but lab is usually more detailed.

He is the nicest guy you could ever meet, but he teaching skills are very poor. If you do not have to take this class than don't. It is horrible. It is almost impossible to make a good grade in this class. Nice guy-poor teacher I would say he is a 2 star professor.

While he's incredibly entertaining, he's not the best at explaining things. He know his stuff, there's no doubt about that, but he tends to jump from one thing to another and you get lost. Very in-depth class. While it's not impossible to make an A, it takes extreme amounts of work. I'll admit I didn't give this class my all, and it showed. STUDY!

A great class taught by a natural teacher. Take this class, but you can't miss lecture. The lecture notes are critical for the exams. Good luck!

The class is by no means easy, but if you study a lot you shouldn't have a problem. Botany is pretty boring and he doesn't talk very loudly so it's hard to hear him, but overall it's not too bad.

Ok he is hard, but if you study its doable. I got an A but study my head off take notes becuase there will be random questions you wouldn't expect from the lecture on the test. Lab is easy and he taught mine so it was advantagous i believe. Overall he is a funny guy but the lecture is boring but you can get an A if you are determined.

His Botany started out easy, but than he changed the test to fill in the blank. The tests are impossible. My lab was rlly easy, thankfully. Overall, he was very, very boring! He has random test questions so take excellent notes.

This class is horrible. Especially this semester. The tests are fill in the blank, he offers no study guide, and extra credit is given only to those who attend on certain days. I attended nearly every day, but would happen to miss the days that he gave out sheets for extra credit. I quit going. Great guy. Bad teacher.

Worst botany class ever. The tests were easy enough. The lab was only another lecture, but there were quizzes, so I had to go. <_< He went on about wood, and different ways to cut it. Learn to love wood, and learn to love boring lectures. Overall not hard to pass - gives extra credit for attendance sometimes.

I was actually pretty interested in this class but the tests are really hard. You need a thorough understanding of the material to do well. The lecture is extremely boring but go anyway cause he gives random extra credit. STUDY! STUDY!STUDY!

I didn't like him much at first, but he became one of my favorite professors by the end of the semester. Is willing to work over material out of class. Likes to make "botany" jokes and talk about the biological basis for drugs and alcohol. He's the only one that teaches 1120 so there's really no way to avoid him.

Avoid if at all possible, however he's the only who teaches the course so if you have to have this course you have to take him. Try to stick through it, after the 2nd test he starts giving out a lot of extra credit for just showing up for class, however study hard and you might get a B. about 30% of the test are from the practice tests he emails.

Ok, Dr. Hollings is an amazing guy one on one. His class however, is horrid. Do not ask for anything, because it just makes him mad and then he takes it out on everyone. e.g he threw a chair. However, lab is not as bad. Just take a later one so you can get help on the quizzes. Overall an ok class if his tests actually went with his practice tests.

Sit close to the front, he speaks softly and slowly. Beyond that, I find him one of the most subtle yet entertaining professors I've had. He is so quick witted, always has a wise crack on a test, creative quizzes, and just pure passion for his work. If you want to learn the topic he is teaching, you'll really appreciate his insite.

Very boring, but if you go to class and study your tail off you can make a good grade. He curves some at the end cause I was a few points away from an A and still got one. Can be sort of entertaining at times but not too often. Wouldn't want to take again, but he was OK.

yes you have to show to make the grade. tests are very tricky but he is more than helpful if you go to him for help. he is a very interesting person when talking to him one on one. hands down a really great prof. lab was great! pay very very close attention in lec.

He hands out study guides that contain 75% of the exam questions... however it's the 25% that most always got me. DO TAKE NOTES AND PAY ATTENTION. I know it seems like he's always talking about marijuana and liquor; however, he does talk about plants! I didn't make an A until the final (I got a 94!), and I still came out with A.

He gives outlines and study guides for tests, but you still have to study up to make a good grade. He knows what he's talking about, but he might put you to sleep. So-so prof.
