I took Food & History online last summer. It is an interesting class, but make no mistake that Dr. Hurlburt's classes are definitely not the "blow-off" type! She makes you work for it. The class was very organized but there were a lot of discussion boards which get somewhat political. Also there is a rather large term project involving PowerPoint.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Hurlburt. Food in History?! How cool is that? Her classes are the best because she manages to encourage discussion and make it fun and interesting. I will take ANY class she teaches. She'll tell you like it is and expects the same from you! She made me work but I'm a better writer for it. LOVE HER.

Comment:

Going into the class I had no interest in the subject at all, just going because it filled a gen ed requirement. However, Dr. Hurlburt did a fantastic job of keeping the class interesting and fresh. Grade comes entirely from 6 position papers, a term paper, midterm, and final. If this was taught by someone else would have probably dropped it.

Dr. Hurlburt is such a great teacher! She's extremely helpful, especially when you're ready to pull your hair out because your paper is not going well. She also lets you pick the topic you want for Hist 392 - some teachers make you choose a topic from their period of study. I totally recommend her to everyone.
