I had a very hard time paying attention in class because lectures are dry and boring. Instructions on the group paper was very unclear. Mumbled a lot so I couldn't understand what he was saying often. If you study for the exams you should do fine in the class.

He is extremely knowledgeable, funny, and helpful. He sort of rambles, but everything he says is interesting. I absolutely loved his class and he made the topic very interesting. His tests are a little hard, but shouldn't be bad if you take good notes. Pay attention!

He really is an intelligent man and open-minded students will enjoy his lectures, though he loves throwing around large vocabulary for no real reason and that can get annoying after awhile. He tends to be vague with his assignments and that can lead to a lot of confusion. He requires an incredible amount of reading, but goes over what you need

Dr. Kemp's intelligence is rivaled only by his humor. He's a very kind person and strives for his students. His lectures are interesting if you take it upon yourself to do the reading and the work that is required of you. You determine your grade. He is a very good instructor. I had no problems whatsoever.

He's a good teacher. The lectures are boring though. During the summer there is a TON of reading to get done. Not the best class, but I got through it.

American Literature I: Dr. Kemp made this class unbearable for me. I did not understand what he expected from me for most of the assignments. It was halfway into the semester before I finally figured out what he wanted. Some have an easier time than I did, but we did not click. Figure out what he wants early on and you'll do well.

I'm actually not a big fan of American Literature, but Dr. Kemp made the class interesting by giving background info on the authors and inserting a little humor here and there. He actually makes you think about the subject matter. You'll do well if you read and at least make half an attempt to understand and analyze the subject matter.

Dr. Kemp is very vague when it comes to telling you what you need to do on your assignments. He doesn't give you a clear idea of what is going to be on the exams, and he doesn't tell you what he wants in your papers. I didn't do well in his class at all, but some people seemed to have an easier time than I did. I won't take him again.

In contradiction to my being an English major, I'll make this very short. Dr. Kemp oftens speaks of slipping into senility in a few years- let's just say he passed through them about ten years back.

HAHA, talks about sex TOO MUCH for a professor? My guess is you haven't been in college too long! Kemp was great--a little eccentric but very funny and intelligent. Do the reading, contribute to discussions, and you'll be fine.

Dr. Kemp's lectures are very difficult to understand, what he wants from you is not clear, and the project is not too bad, but he doesn't clearly state what he wants from you in the projects. If you don't need his class, then don't take it.

Dr Kemp was extremely hard to understand in class. note taking is next to impossible, his study guide does not follow his tests, he mumbles, talks about sex TOO MUCH for an older man (and a professor no less!!) and grades unfairly. I got a C when I should have received a B. I am an A/B study, my major is English.. doesnt know how to grade.

Dr. Kemp scared me sooo badly at first, but after having him for two classes I began to understand his sense of humor and teaching style. He is a really great prof; extremely intelligent and funny. Definitely worth taking a class (or more) from.

Dr. Kemp is a very smart man. The lectures are ok as far as lectures go. He gives a project which will make or break your grade. I'll take time, but its nothing too hard. His tests aren't bad. Take good notes and study them for a day or so, and you won't have to crack the book. I got a B, no sweat.

This guy is horrible. Not only are his lectures boring, he's also not very nice. He rambles in his lectures and it is impossible to take notes. He is not clear in his expectations either. If you ask him a question in class he will make you feel like an ignorant idiot for not knowing the anwser

His thespian interpretations of the text alone are reason enough to take one of this excellent professor's courses. Part of being a successful educator is being an entertaining one. In this Dr. Homer Kemp succeeds admirably. Encore.

Despite dry lectures for 3 hours on Monday nights, I actually enjoyed the class. Just write down EVERYTHING he says in class and understand the passages he goes over (and u won't have to read) Also, do well on the paper, it will make/break your grade!
