Comment:

Slow speaker, which is good for my notes but bad for my attention span. Super hard marker and, quite frankly, I'm not sure he understands how to mark papers, anyway. His exams often require a knowledge of the in-class screenings that you can't get from the one or two times you watch them--memorization is an asset. (Also, text is a lifesaver.)

Comment:

Taught me at U of Winnipeg. Very knowledgeable and engaging. I think he studied in NY film. Relies heavily on the text and lectures but great to watch a film every class. At the end we made a short using a bolex camera. Meet lots of interesting ta's/students in this class. Get to know movies better!

A sweet man. Very shy and self-conscious, but very passionate and knowledgeable about the material. If you can stay awake in the lecture and pick his brain, you'll learn so much. Very open to students

He is shy/ awkward. He often reads his notes as opposed to just talking making his lectures feel like verbal essays which make them full of information, but at times too involved. His film selections are among the best in the school as he doesn't go with safe bets and sometimes the films are painful to sit through, other times they blow your mind.

Comment:

Knows his stuff!! Opened my eyes to many older films and film genres that I had no previous interest in. Come to class on time, make use of his office hours for extra information and help, it's worth the extra effort and will be reflected in you marks. His teaching made me decide to do a Film minor.

He could be a really great teacher if he'd just teach with enthusiasm and confidence. He is extremely nice and very well versed in film (especially of the b&w era). His timidness and long pauses make his lectures difficult to sit through.

Howard Curle is a great professor. Because of him I majored in film studies. He is readily available for feedback on papers, always there to listen and very understanding. Don't be late to class though!

he's not terriby engaging, however it is evident that he is passionate about what he teaches. his fingernails creep me out...they're like talons or creepy halowe'en hands. he needs to cut them...they're very distracting. choose more engaging material.
