Comment:
Howard Horwitz was by far the worst college professor Ive ever had. His lectures are convoluted and disorganized as he often blathers on in his own stream of consciousness. His exercise questions are wordy and complex. Hes also got some weird fascinations with bizarre subjects like eugenics. My biggest regret was taking a class by Howard Horwitz.

Comment:
Horwitz operates through the banking model of education. He deposits information into your brain, then withdraws it later during assignments, discussions and papers. His writing style is very formal and traditional. For ENGL 2700, expect weekly assignments, a fair amount of reading, and 3 papers. You can revise the first 2 papers for a better grade

He too closely resembles Mr. Gradgrind in "Hard Times". I could spend a semester writing about why this guy shouldn't be a teacher. Just don't take one of his classes. Please.

Sends back work constantly, always unsatisfied with the responses, and leaves very little time to respond to discussions. If you just signed up, I would drop immediately, especially if you have any other classes, a job, or anything else going on in your life besides this class. This dude does not care about you as a student or as a human being.

This class is tough and he's tough. But he's responsive and will answer any questions (even at weird times of the day). He's a tough grader, but will give you really specific feedback. All papers can be revised and resubmitted. The days for online discussions are weird, but the deadline is somewhat flexible. For an online class it's pretty good.

This guy is infuriating. I dropped before writing our 1st paper. He demands that the thesis statement is to his liking before he'll even let you proceed with the paper, which is fine, but you better know exactly what he wants you to say. I want the part of my soul back that he took in only 2 weeks of dealing with this dude.

Grading criteria? Arbitrary/esoteric. Expects you to abide by rules of writing according to Sir Horwitz. Demands prose be utterly utilitarian. Forget about aesthetic/rhetoric. I was fortunate enough to learn his writing style, and Ace the class. But I felt as if I lost my dignity in process. That said, he's willing work w/ students. THIS THIS THIS.

If you're signed up to take a class from Horwitz, drop it. Trust me, I'm saving you the most intense and stressful semester you've ever had. There is only one correct opinion in the room and it is his. Not yours. There is little, if any, room for interpretation. Very condescending, offers harsh criticism and loves correcting your grammar. Drop now.

I have never written a review on RMP. I usually don't care enough about how bad a professor is but let me tell you, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT take this professor. The guy thinks he is the king of English and constantly attempts to make your writing just like his. Hardest grader I've ever had and in no way is he constructive toward your actual ideas.

Your mind will be challenged , your heart will be humbled, and your fingers will be typing a lot. I personally admire Howard Horvitz. He allows you to get better by challenging your writing ability and granting opportunities to improve. I love that he goes out of his way to learn your name and answers emails quicker than Usain Bolt's 100m dash.

While the professor expresses his desire to help the student, the actual help given is nonexistent. Though he displays knowledge about the English language and literature, his desire to teach the Business in English class is zero to none/doesn't even want to be there and even said that on day 1. Goes on multiple tangents & does not follow syllabus.

He was thrown into this course last minute, but his confusion and disorganization persisted throughout the semester. He assigned 4-5 papers which he grades strictly, but luckily you can rewrite them for a better grade. He also assigned homework but was unclear about where to find it and when it was due.

Absolutely cannot stand this person. He makes it near impossible to write an acceptable essay because you have to find out how he would write it. If you are reading this comment, seriously, do NOT take this class. You will regret it and will find yourself wanting to punch a small child.

A lot of reading and writing in this class. Sometimes it can be hard to determine what he is actually looking for in the required essays, and it can be frustrating how particualr he his with his corrections, but overall Prof. Horwitz is pretty helpful and is willing to clarify anything if you just ask. His grading is fair, not difficult to get an A

This guy thinks he is God's gift to the English language. He thinks he is so much smarter than his students. If you don't believe me, just wait until you get back your first paper with his corrections. I think his mother must have forgotten to teach him tact growing up.

Too much writing for a business class. He is the pickiest professor I've ever had. And I'm not talking about grammar. You write somethig that is grammatically perfect and presents your point well, he will criticize it jsut because it's not the way he would have written it. He is very condescending when he grades your papers. Would NOT recommend him.

Prof. Horwitz was one of my favorite professors. He will teach out to write better, use clearer logic. When you get back your first paper you may cry. It will be covered with corrections and red marks, but the actual grade on the paper will be fair. Also, he is very helpful, especially during office hours, and with paper revisions.
