Brilliant man. Real love for and sensitivity to literature. Sharp, bright, stimulating. Fortunate to have had him. Favorite, most memorable professor so far. If you love literature and care to understand it, you will love him and learn a lot from him.

Great teacher. Took the time to help me read and write better. He tutored me at the library. He explained a gerund to me. He helped me dissect a sentence. He will help those that want help. Dr. Brightman put me on the right path. I am now a successful attorney. Thank you Hal Brightman

The tests look like crossword puzzle clues, the teacher never shows up or returns work, breaks are not allowed, requests for clarification are met with a repeat of lecture, and lack of clarity of input leaves the coursework looking more like guesswork. Smart man who cannot communicate an idea to an audience other than himself. Flee his course.

He is extremely intelligent, but the problem is he does not teach or lecture well. He just talks too much garbage. He never explains the subject well and does not answer your question. It is very hard to focus in class and difficult to learn or impossible to learn. He is the worst English professor that I've ever had.

Oh man, Oh man...Dr. Brightman is the MAN. I got an A in his class and had 13 absences, handed in one paper...and still aced. If you have him, make your presence known and be polite and outgoing, he'll love you! One of my favs.

Listen take this man class. Very ancient and older..But just hand in all of your papers. You will never see them again except the main 4 and stay in his face. Brightman is of a dying breed of pre-hippie-era intellectuals. He's the only professor whose thoughts engaged me so much that I'd actually write down his anecdotes. Made me understand Kafka's 'Before the Law', and that is saying a lot. I wish the best.

I don't think I've ever been more bored in my LIFE. He's very polite & amiable, but he tends to blab on forever. Super easy clas, if you could stay awake. His 3 hour class on Sat morning was torture though! Made up work next sem & got a B!
