If you love poetry, this is the class for you. Irena is very nice and passionate about poetry. She takes attendance, but she gives you 3 ditch days. 3 poetry sets due throughout the semester that consist of 4 poems each that have no hard guidelines. Very easy class to pass, just hard to pay attention since it's a discussion class. No tests/quizzes.

She is an extremely understanding person, and is willing to work with you if you reach out to her. She is very passionate about her students and what she teaches. Easy class but she makes it thought provoking. You only have about 4 assignments throughout the semester, and no tests.

Actually cares about her students and wants every one of them to succeed. Her class is fun, interesting and if you're anything like me, makes you want to become a writer. She grades your work holistically and based on merit which is a huge breath of fresh air. Takes attendance and expects you to read the assigned readings in order to discuss.

Loved her! She is passionate about what she is teaching and she does it beautifully. I took this class for an easy A I wasn't even planning on liking it. She really opens your mind and makes anyone feel like an author. TAKE THIS CLASSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! IT COUNTS AS A GE ANS IS AMAZING! It's good for the soul. No Tests or real HW. (:

i went into the class entirely intimidated by the thought of writing poetry...irena changed that. i honestly don't know how she does it, but she's got a magic way of getting students to see their inner potential as poets. seriously amazing teacher. if you get a chance to take her, do it!!!!!!! it's life changing if you're pursuing poetry.

So warm and nice. Incredibly inspiring to listen to during class. Workshops were fun and comfortable to share your stuff. Four projects: poetry, fiction, dialogue, and your choice. Super awesome class - my favorite elective yet.

Irena is a great English professor. She constructs her lectures in a very thoughtful way and incorporates student input all the time. The writing assignments are a lot of fun, because she gives you a lot of room to write something that interests you. Sometimes class discussion gets a little...strange, but fun and valuable nonetheless.

Prof. Praitis is really open anything you want to write. Class is broken into two parts. One day everyone gets together to discuss readings and get writing tips. Day two, you will be broken up into groups that you stick with all semester and have a T.A. help you with your writing projects. Part 2 was the best part for me. Overall fun class!

Irena is the most supportive and inspirational woman I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I owe so many of my academic and personal successes to her. Ugh, words can't even begin to describe how awesome she is. I just feel bad that I've been at CSUF for 4 years & this semester was the first time I had her. Reading every day, but I stopped halfway through & still made it. 3 paper but totally easy. Take her if you can for any class, she's GREAT!!!

If all you want is an easy A, then she's your teacher. If you pay tuition so that you can be taught by your fellow classmates as opposed to being taught by a qualified instructor, then she's your teacher. She doesn't teach. She encourages you to learn from the block-headed banalities that are dispensed in the class discussion by your classmates.
