I loved this class & Professor Williams. Her class is discussion based, and while 2 single spaced pages per week may seem like a lot, the course readings are very interesting. Professor Williams genuinely cares about her students and wants to help each of them discover their voice as a writer. I'd recommend for anyone who wants to grow as a writer.

There is a long writing assignment due once a week, and we read about 7 books. This took an excessive amount of time at first, but it gets easier. She really grew on me throughout the semester. Actually allows for critical thinking and independent thought. Cares about her students.

Take. She gets to know your work and helps you address the areas to make it better. She chooses thought provoking material and challenges students to be intellectual. 1 of the best non-business classes - expanded my perspective of my place in the world;her writing requirements have taught me question everything to understand its real message.

Professor Williams really cares about her students. She's savage at times but if you put forth effort then she does what she can to help you out. If you participate and comment during the class discussions she will take note of that in your final grade. She has a bit of work, 2 single spaced pages a week, but they are interesting books.

She demands a lot of thought. But she makes you grow intellectually. I wish I would've put more effort into this class this semester. She's really sweet once you get to know her. She can be mean sometimes though. lol

Professor Williams is the best. I am not an English major but am in her class, Literature in Violent Times, and it has given me a new appreciation for literature and writing. She will really change the way you think and you will become a much better writer from the class, if you're willing to put in the effort. Definitely worth it.

I had her for Reading to Remember. If you want an easy A, take her. Her class is incredibly boring, all you do is discuss the books read. You have a 2 page, single spaced essay due once a week but thats it. No tests or quizzes. Participation does matter. This class takes about 2 hours a week though.

The type of thinking she asks of us is the type of thinking that is missing in universities, and in this country. If you think you're sick at arguing, then you especially need this. But if you're not sincerely willing to try for one semester, then don't waste your time. She has a PH.D. from Columbia, we do not. It's worth listening to her closely.

Professor Williams is the best english teacher I have ever had at this school and in my life. She demands a lot from you, as you are asked to write an essay every week. However, there are no tests/quizzes, assignments, or surprises. She tells you what she wants and is very straightforward. Easy A if you put in the work and stay on top of the class.

Dr. Williams is the one professor who every English major at USD should take! She is an inspiring teacher who will change how you look at literature. The class is graded on your progress throughout the class, so be sure to work to improve yourself throughout the semester! She also really appreciates if you try and ask questions about the text.

Irene's class is a right-of-passage for English majors and minors. She will completely change the way you read, write, and even think! There is more reading and writing than a normal English class, but completely worthwhile. It is normal to feel totally lost at first; go to the USD Writing Center for great insight on her class and style! Do it.

Professor Williams is simply fantastic. If you listen closely in class she actually gives great life advice. She really knows her books well and the key to her papers is to read closely. Ignore the other bad comments. She's great and I can't wait to take another class with her!

Professor Williams' class was the most amazing English Class I have ever taken. There is a lot of work, all in all I must have written 24 essays in her class. But, if you do the work your writing will improve leaps and bounds! Makes sure to go to her office hours she is most helpful to those who take the time to comes see her. She is the best!!!

Willams is such a sweet woman! There are 2 page single spaced essays due most weeks but after you get the hang of them, you can write one in a very short time. Your whole grade is based on your improvement in the class. As long as you participate in class and understand how to correctly do the writings you can easily get an A! Loved this class.

Williams class is plain BORING. You write an essay at least two pages for every class then pass them around and compare. She grades you based on how you have improved your writing and how much you participate. Class is just boring, and a lot of work for some not so interesting classes

Everything on here is pretty much true. She has a completely different teaching style. Every week 2 pages single spaced are due. Don't let this deter you! I learned a lot about my writing and am now more at ease writing longer papers. Be vocal in the class, do the work, you'll get an A. Take it!

Williams is the easiest professor ever. She tells you exactly what she wants and exactly how she wants it. She demands hard work, but that's about all she's ever looking for. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she takes note if you're never there and factors it into your grade, which is based entirely off of personal growth as a writer.

Don't take this class if you are stubborn or closed to different ways of thinking. It's not even that hard. There are no grades and as long as you show progress you will get a good grade. Her teaching style is such that you don't even have to read the whole book to write a response, 1 chapter or page will do!

Comment:
This class is very different from a typical english class, the papers that you write have no intro/conclusion, no paragraphs, & no thesis. You are assigned at least 1 single spaced 2 page essay a week, and a lot of reading. This class is definitely not for the light-hearted. Williams is very picky & expects your work to be close to perfect.
