Great Professor. He made finance enjoyable, but you have to learn the material. If you do not want to study, do not take his class.

Dr. Roten is such a cool guy. His class is pretty tough: 4 tests 25% each, no other grades. You need to go to class every day to understand the concepts but if you're prepared to study his class isn't too bad.

Okay, so I really like Dr. Roten as a person. He's my favorite professor at ASU (personality wise). His tests are extremely difficult... BUT if you are pursuing an MBA TAKE HIM FOR MANAGERIAL FINANCE!!! I took him for an undergrad course and my GPA is too precious to get messed up... but Roten is seriously an awesome person with a great personality

Funny. Connected. Very good at listening, understanding and answering questions several different ways until the student understands the answer. Creates a very open, safe atmosphere for asking questions and actually learning. No political discussions (much appreciated). Peppers lectures with good life advice. Enjoyed the class!

Very lecture heavy. Take good notes and ask questions. He is a nice guy but tends to make the material more difficult than it should be. There are four test that make up your entire grade. Read the book.

I typically make A's in all my classes and I had to work my butt off to even end up with a C+ in this class. He makes everything WAY more difficult than it should be, especially for an intro course. With only 4 exams to base your entire grade on, one bad test and it's impossible to do well overall. Take Bouboulis instead and get an easy A.

I really liked this class!! Super funny professor!! Definitely go to his office hours if you need any help. The test are, no doubt, difficult- they require A LOT of studying and reading of the book. However, if you take notes in class and review them at least a week before a test you will be a okay! Highly recommend Ivan as a teacher!

Do not take his class, point blank. There are just 4 EXTREMELY HARD test for your entire grade. He does not provide homework, study guides, or online notes. Everything is written on the chalk board. Next, test are multiple choice with a mix of math and concept questions. The book is not used. Just don't take this class. Nice guy though.

He is a great person to have as a teacher. His tests are more difficult, but as long as you go to class and understand the examples he goes through and study hard you will be fine. It is definitely not an easy A, but he is an enjoyable teacher!

Professor Roten is a good finance teacher. I am an accounting major, and he made me actually enjoy going to finance class. He always tried to relate what we were learning in class to how we can apply it to our daily lives. The only thing that sucks is that the only grades in the class are tests. So don't mess up on any or your grade will fall.

Roten is a pretty easy going guy and so are his classes. Attend his lectures and do the problems in class; you will not do well in the class if you don't understand the math involved. Also, be prepared to read the book for concepts. 4 test for the class: each test is roughly 60% math, 40% conceptual. I felt the class was an easy A!

Roten is by far the best teacher I have had in college. He frequently takes breaks in class and allows for funny exchanges about everyday situations. His class is pretty easy too, as long as you read the book. I got a 98 on the first two test, all thanks to the help from his end of chapter answers he puts up on ASUlearn.

Roten is a cool and funny guy but this class is hard. I'm usually good at math but I barely pulled out a C in this class. Finance just wasn't my thing. Attendance isn't mandatory though which is cool.

Dr. Roten is a nice guy and has a good sense of humor. My biggest problem with him is that there is only four grades the entire semester (tests) with no opportunity for extra credit and he never posts grades on ASUlearn. The final is the easiest test all year. I'm usually a straight A student that will probably end up with a B in this class.

Took him for intro to finance and he did a great job explaining the material. If you go to class you will do fine. He is very clear in lecture, gives plenty of practice examples, and tells amusing stories. Only 4 tests, 3 regular and one final, which are tough. If you can do the examples, you can pass the tests.
