Comment:
He thinks very highly of himself and his class, which would be fine if he was good at lecturing and had an ounce of charisma. He tries, but his lectures are so dry and he goes off on so many self-indulgent tangents that I have a hard time following him. He loves interrogating via the Socratic method and if you don't participate he'll call you out.

I had Ivan for Mass Media & Society and I thought he was great. You'll see some great films and you'll start thinking about the media in a new light. Just don't be walk in late or miss classes, he's not afraid to publicly humiliate students. The journals are easy as long as you pay attention to class discussions.

Had him for Mass Media, which aside from a few interesting films was ridiculously boring. He loves bringing up Mexico. Also, don't mess with him he's a black belt.

WARNING: do not take this class. incredibly boring, extensiveeee reading (which btw, he's too lazy to make a booklet at the copy center, so the entire class has to go to the library to share 2 books for several readings.) thinks VERY highly of his class. utter waste of time.

ivan is a fascinating professor, and right on the money if you give him your attention. the reading is impossible to keep up with, but not generally meant to be read. skim through it, and contribute to the class through reply, and you'll learn a wealth of information. he is not there to waste his time. i love nothing more than listening to his ra

Spent the first 45 minutes of day one explaining how we need to get here on time and then marked me absent even when I was there. When I tried protest, he blatantly ignored me so he could play favorites to the girl who speaks Spanish in the class. He ruined this subject for me because he gets off on making people feel inferior to him.

If it weren't for the wide array of films he shows, this class would be impossible to keep up with. The readings are somewhat interesting, but extremely dry and very extensive. In the end however, he is a generous grader, but be sure to not fall behind in the reading responses, as they begin to pile up as the semester goes on.

I'm in the class right now, and I'm about as bored as I've ever been. We're watching a movie with Nazis in it. I can rarely understand his accent, and he rarely says much in class that wasn't articulated better in the readings he assigns, which are pretty banal as well.

Amazingly Smart, Has a strong opinion but respects other stances. Great Humor if you understand it. All the readings are extremely thurough and connect at the end of the day. Take notes and your golden. Trail off for a few minutes and you will find it much harder to find your way back.

Although he's an intruiging man, he's too unique, the information is obtuse and he succeeded in transforming a fascinating subject, anthropology, into something totally irrelevant to humans.
