Tenure, phd, or even memberships don't amount to anything if you can't maintain or even do your job efficiently. He loves to do his own thing, so don't expect to have an immediate grade after turning in an assignment on time.

I wasn't particularly interested in Southeastern Native Americans prior to the class. Dr. May is kind of dry, but the material turned out to be interesting. There is a weekly 1 page response paper on about 10 pages of reading. Tests aren't too hard, go over the study guide and you should be fine. Our class routinely got out about an hour early.

He was very helpful. His test are from the reading and from lecture. You should read everything he hands out. He has a lot of discussion and open dialogue in the class about the readings. I would absolutely take his class again.

BAD BAD BAD Professor. He expects you to learn two chapters a week when he only covers one of them. Then tests you on 7 chapters at a time and wonders why no one is doing well. He is boring, shows a movie just about every class, that don't really have anything to do with what he tests on. He talks sooooo slow, and boring. DON'T TAKE!!

Dr. May was a great teacher and gave us the opportunity to appreciate Historical Archeology and Fieldwork. I love this field now!!! He usually answered all questions in class or after class if you needed him. If you aren't interested in Historical Archeology or reading the book then it's not the class for you.

Intro to Arch: May is a really bad teacher. He somehow makes an interesting subject waaayyy more boring than the textbook. Tests are too hard. He expects you to know obsure info, sometimes info from chapters you haven't been assigned! He never stops talking about pointless stuff. Ever.

Im currently taking his wed night archaeology class and I hate it! I wanted to be an archaeologist up until I took his class. He does not teach AT ALL! Class is sooo boring and tests are straight from the text book which is horribly boring as well. DO NOT TAKE!

Dr. May turned a very interesting subject, Native American Culture, into something quite boring. He is knowledgeable but disorganized. He preaches brotherhood to all races and backgrounds but when I approached him to help he was a complete **** and was not concerned in helping me at all. I have an A in all my other classes, C in this one.

Even though I did well in the class and am usually very easy to entertain, watching paint dry would have been more informative and interesting than this class. Not an easy A, but not insanly hard. Bring a cup of coffee to class, that way you'll make it through the 70 year old documentaries (sadly I'm not joking at all.)

Class is very much based from the textbook which is very poorly organized. He gives you a study guide at least a week before each exam and exams come from them. As long as you take the time to go over the study guide a day or two before the exam you should do pretty well. Also there is a 8-10 page paper. He is also very dry humored.

Good teacher. Tries to make it interesting. Lots of opportunity to do field work on Saturdays. Have to read the text, or will be unable to answer all the test questions. Fair grader.

TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE TEACHER!!!! If you do end up having him, he has extremely bad eyesight so be careful to write your answers really big and clear and check for mistakes as soon as he hands the tests back...or you could end up screwed.

he is one of the worst teachers i've ever had...i dreaded going to his class every week...3 hour night class, and he does keep you for the entire 3 hours...tests were ridiculously hard and topics on the study guide were not ever on the test and vice-versa...do yourself a favor and do not take him!!!
