Dr. Jack Bowman Bailey was one of the best professors I had at WIU. He is informative and cares about the student. His knowledge is addictive. He helped me alot back in the late '70's. I was a Biology major and he talked me into also majoring in Geology. His is a top rate instructor. I give him an A+!

Comment:

He is retiring at the end of this year. He teaches in a kind of boring way when he talks about rocks, but dinosaurs and other ancient life he seems to get more excited. You can get 50% and then some back on tests with corrections so failign this class is near impossible. Two lab projects straight forward and easy just take time.

Dr. Bailey is very intelligent. This is his last year at WIU as he's retiring at the end of the year and I must say he's done one hell of a great job. The material can get a tad bit dry and boring very quickly, labs are long as you stay to the end usually. He's very fair and lets you do test corrections and curves grades. Highly recommendForGenED

This professor is absolutely rediculous. If you are not a geo major, dont even think about taking this. His lectures just go on and on, there is no way you can possibly know what to even take notes on. In one day I hear as much as i would in two weeks in a normal class He also expects you to just pick up what he was saying as if you already knew it

He is a good teacher, but really seems to go off on a tangent once in a while. Yon dont need a text book, he has you buy a textbook that he wrote, which is what you take your notes in. You can do test corrections to get half the points back that is really helpful. Overall, its an alright class

Have to purchase the lecture book and lab book. This class is for majors and sucks for non-majors. His lectures are usually dull and tend to drag on longer than you'd like. I'd bring something to keep your mind occupied unless you like Geology.

Dr.Bailey is awesome. I don't see how it's possible to screw his classes up. Excellent at teaching material. Likes what he likes and shows lots of movies. He broke a hip when I was in his class and he was gone for a month. Bounced right back. Great instructor. Great Person. If you fail his class you suck. Think about that.

Super nice and very laid back with grading. He's extremely helpful if you see him during his office hours. Explains things very well, extreme detail. Willing to work with you on handing in assignment late. The class requires LOTS of work! Tests are hard but you can earn 1/2 the pts you lost back! How cool is that?! There's no excuse to not pass.

Very intelligent!!!!! Knows his stuff.... Labs are easy and he gives you the answer key. Test can be difficult unless you look at the text once in a while or show up to class often. If you get a bad grade on the test you can do make-ups. p.s. don't sleep or read the paper in class!!!

This class was the reason I switched my major to geology--and it only took a couple of days. He's an interesting and caring prof who tries to keep your attention. The exams are not really hard if you pay attention and read a little of the book. If all else fails, you can earn back some of the exam points with write-ups. Lab's easy, barely grade

Bailey's in a tough spot: this is a premajor class that's useful for general requirements. So there is a TON of information in here, but he really tries to make it passable for the nonmajors (like me). He actually guarantees at least a C if you do all the work and test corrections, no matter how badly you mess them up. If you need this, it'll do.

This class is a total waste of your time if you're not a geology major. His lectures go way too much into depth, and only get tested on about 1/4 of it. Lectures are a waste of time to attend, and needless to say, this is the first class i have ever caught myself sleeping in. There are two projects that are miserable to work through.

My b/f thought I was joking when I said, "Geology is depressing." So he came to class with me one day and after class he told me, "This class would make ne one think they had ADD!" He's boring and in his 30 years of teaching he has become one of the most closed minded poeple ever. He's not open meeting all students needs just the geology majors.
