Comment:
Lecture is pretty good. Lyons does a good job of covering the material. The part that I hated was the mandatory drill, which was called a "discussion session," but it was just a repeat of the lecture. Either way, I managed to pass without doing any of the reading, and just paying attention in lecture. Not a hard class, but worth going to.

I loved his lectures. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he is teaching, even though he can be a little scatterbrained. The readings are difficult but if you skip the readings and just go to class and take notes you will be fine. Attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend it. He's funny too.

Jack Lyons is a pretty cool Professor, and his lectures are great, but don't ever expect his help. Never replied to any of my emails. Also made his Drill Leaders grade all the tests and even made them teach the lecture a couple of times while he was on vaca. Tests are all essay and will be difficult if you don't keep up.

The readings for this class were crazy long but most were at least somewhat interesting. I honestly hated going to lectures though so I skipped most of the time, but it's not that difficult to do well if you study the essay questions he gives you before the exams. He seems very scatter brained though and I found it hard to pay attention to him.

Ok, I thought this was a more rigorous version of Intro to Philosophy but this is a 4000 level Cognitive Science/Philosophy of the Mind course rebranded with a 2000 level PHIL title. Readings can take up to 5 hours a night if you don't have previous knowledge, and class is unorganized. It's discussion based and grades are easy if you keep up.

Dr. Lyons is a great professor; engaging, charismatic and fun. He is very eloquent and is extremely knowledgable. He is a very difficult professor though; the tests are very demanding and the material is extremely dense. You must work hard to get a decent grade in this class.

This class is very unorganized and the teacher has a difficult time explaining things. The readings are obscenely difficult for undergrad non-philosophy majors and it's not clear when he wants you to do what by. If you ask for explanations on a topic he talks for awhile but doesn't really answer anything. Nice guy, bad class for undergrads

Dr. Lyons is a charismatic and entertaining professor, however on the first day of phil of psyc the class was overloaded without enough seats for everyone. By the 2nd week, over half the class dropped. Probably the most difficult course to understand and the readings he assigns are unrealistically difficult for undergrads. Unorganized/no powerpoint

All of you who have hated on Jack are lame! He is SUCH an awesome professor! The man is crazy smart and makes the class really interesting. He's incredibly nice and honestly cares about his students. Don't expect to pass this class without putting forth effort, though. Don't blame a professor for YOUR lack of commitment to your grade.

Great professor for a large seminar class. He is young(ish) and funny. I got an A by going to class and taking notes; that's essentially all you need to do. Would recommend taking him!

I got an A, but i did not find the class enjoyable because of his scatterbrained way of talking and his unwillingness to help students. he gives out a whole lot of reading but IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO GET AN A. all you have to do is type out exactly what he says in class and write a wacked out paper that relates in some bizarre way to a class topic.

He knows his stuff, but is not very good at relating it to the class. He is pretty scatterbrained, and always has this look like he has no idea what you are or what you are doing. His exams weren't too hard, but he graded the paper hard. Steer clear, if possible.
