Comment:

Jackie is the best professor I've ever seen at the community college level. Unfortunately many CC students want to skate by like many other profs let them. She is totally approachable as long as you don't give her an attitude or expect her to hand over the answers. I took every class, went on to get an Art History BA (U of M) now going for my MA.

Shinners was hard but fair, and made her expectations known at the beginning of the course. She's extremely knowledgeable and she is helpful when it's obvious that people are trying. (She won't answer questions like, "What'd we do in class last week?")

Get out while you still can. I don't know what class the positive remark's were in, but she was not helpful at all. Unclear what we were to be tested over, changed her mind last minute, put stuff on the test she said wouldn't. Take through another college or be prepared to study until you're sleep deprived.

Shinners is not your average CC teacher. You actually have to show up to every class, pay attention, take notes, and study to get a good grade. She is very passionate about art and strives to encourage others to feel the same way. I will never forget the class trip to the Chicago Art Institute Institute she organized in 3 weeks. Amazing teacher!

While the lectures may not be exciting, they are clear and informative. I never crossed an exam question that hadn't been discussed in class. While Shinners seems tough, she is more than fair and willing to help those who ask for it. No one should ever expect to skate through one of her classes without effort. I personally think she's a great prof.

I hate her! She no longer enjoys teaching. If you ask a question 9 out of 10 times she doesn't know the answer. HARD tests. Refuses to help you in and out of class. Gets upset if you ask questions. No make ups for anything. puts questions and slides on the trst she never talked about in class. Avoid this class and this teacher. Super hard!!!

Use the "slide list" to make study guides for her tests. You can't skate by in this class! Tests consist of NO MULTIPLE CHOICE-Free response/essays.Class moves fast & there is no way you can pass it without studying. In reference to her style/personality I understand what others have posted but think some of it is a bit exaggerated. She is fair.

I've taken both Art histories with Jackie and she's great - Most don't like her because she's tough and can be bland, but that doesn't make her a bad professor. She has a passion for what she teaches and it's obvious. Arrive on time, take notes, and show some interest - her classes are well worth the knowledge gained.

This instructor has very high expectations and her classes move FAST. Don't expect to do well unless you show up to EVERY class and take notes diligently. Don't daydream during lectures; there's a lot of info to take in and remember for exams. I initially hated every second of Art History with her, but looking back I'm grateful for what I learned.

I actually care about art, liked her and looked forward to her classes. She knows her stuff. You can learn a lot if you pay attention and do the work. She only contradicted the text once in my 2 classes with her, and was always clear about what we should study for tests.

Well, she sucks. She expects you to automatically understand everything that she talks about. Says our text book is our 2nd resource, after her, and yet completely contradicts it. Gets angry at us when she is late. Avoid if at all possible.

She is the least helpful professor ever. She is boring and doesn't know what she is talking about. What she says in class comes straight out of the text book, but she gets even those facts wrong. She expects you to remember every little thing and is never able to answer student questions. She is very stuckup and rude. Needs to be fired.

Jackie Shinners is a horrid professor. The textbook was solely used for making copies of pictures in order to waste our ink at home for her "assignments". Everything we were tested on was from rote memorization--terrible way to teach. Write down EVERYTHING she says, no matter how obscure--you may be tested on it. Avoid her classes at all costs!

horrible. absolutely horrible. her class is required for any art degree and she's the only one teaching it. class starts out full and always ends with about eight students. careful on tests, she always gets the wrong slides out and then makes you do the test on them anyway. what's on the study guide you get will not be on the test. be ready.
