Comment:
Seriously one of my favorite classes at UM. Fiction into Film: read the book, watch the movie. 2 papers and 5 EASY quizzes. Very enjoyable class. Burnstein is cool, has good stories to tell, and clearly loves the subject.

Professor Burnstein's only accomplishments are producing a handful of mediocre screenplays, claiming to be expert in areas which he is not, and listening to his own voice. Very uninspiring and bland teacher.

Would not recommend this class. The grading is ridiculous! Class is out of 100 points and missing 1 class or screening causes a 5 point deduction in your grade. Provided no rubric and hardly any guidance for the essay so no wonder people did so badly. I'm so frustrated with how unorganized this class is. Lots of effort put in does not equal an A.

Definitely a workload, but you'll definitely find out whether or not you want to be a screenwriter.

Jim is great! The screenwriting program is very hard but worth the challenge. You have to be willing to step up and work. He will help you along the way but know it's not a easy ride. Make sure you want to write before you take this class.

One of the reasons why U of M's screenwriting programs is one of the best. Gotta show you want it, though.

410, Rewrite, He expects a lot but he works hard too to help you with your writing. I found his comments on my script really insightful, he talks about his past achievements, which is refreshing compared to other prof's in the Film Department but in his case, he could tone it down!

A great prof. Really understands how to teach the mechanics of screenwriting and is really encouraging even when your ideas are terrible (which they usually are). He can be a little "Disney" in his tastes, but a great teacher nonetheless.
