(Does the poster below me realize that he called himself arrogant?) Professor Freeland may be a bit awkward, and she may have difficulty with time management during her lectures, but she's amazingly brilliant and very helpful. I hope to be as smart as she is one day; she's kind of my idol at UCI. She will be greatly missed.

She was a decent professor. I had her for a smaller class and was rather arrogant at times. Also, she made us do a time line that seemed like a waste of time and did no specify the directions clearly.

Beware! She LOVES to hear herself speak, and writes things on the board that are completely and utterly useless as notes or part of class discussion. Highly questionable assignments (timelines and summaries in an upp-div class) and grading scale. Participation counts for 15%..ridiculous! Avoid her now, thank me later...

She is boring and kind of a snob. I didn't get a lot of understanding from her. I don't think very many students did. She is rude and arrogant.

Still getting over this one- get me some antacids, please. Class time doesn't go down easy. I get a vague sense of boredeom from proff, like she's lost her edge, did she ever have it?, kind of blabs. I usually like unstructured, free thinking but this was not that. Blabbing about the obvious- that's what she seemed to call a lecture.

I agree - Freeland's education has failed to make her a good, or even remotely decent professor. She entirely lacks enthusiasm in lecture and just blabs on and on. Her requirements and expectations are completely unclear. She favors students and if you happen to end up on her bad side then watch out for your grade. She is bias hard and dismal.

I'm in her seminar now, it's my third class with her. She's definitely my favorite prof. It's not just me-- about half the people in the seminar had her before. Nuff said.

Clearly the people who disliked her either never paid attention, got a bad grade, or both. The final was not impossible because I got an A on it, and I got an A in the glass. She's brilliant! Yale and Harvard, hello! She answered all of my e-mails, discussions were lively, and in every lecture I learned something now. She's great!

OK, I admit it, I signed up for this class because my roommate took her last quarter and said the reading was decent and the prof was hot. But it's actually turned out to be my favorite class. The prof gives everyone a chance to talk without turning the class into a free for all-- there's always a point to the discussion.

Yes she is Ivy League educated, but elite degrees don't make you a great professor. She is insensitive, unhelpful, and simply fake. She doesn't care about the level of student investment in her classes - she freely insults those who work hard and are high achievers. Save yourself the trouble and NEVER TAKE HER.

One of the worst teachers I've had so far at UCI. She does not enourage creativity, nor will she give a paper a fair grade if she disagrees with any of the arguments. Her final was completely unfair and was based on ability to regurgitate historical facts from lecture. She gives the rest of the English department a bad name.

Well, a lot of the comments about Prof. Freeland were obviously written by the guys who sat in the back of the room playing video games, didn't do any reading, and then were bummed when they got Ds. I know most people LOVED this course: she brought in all kinds of cool A-V stuff, and mostly just talked about the books with passion. Loved it!

I loved this class. Everyday I'd show up in lecture thinking there wasn't much to say about the materials, and then Prof. Freeland would come up with all of these amazing insights. I'm still thinking about a lot of the ideas of the course a couple of months later! One of the high points in my UCI career.

ineffective teacher on every ground. i would take the E102 series with anyone else. freeland's lectures are dry and boring, her final was nearly impossible, and her grading (especially for the papers) was unfair and pathetic. she sets high expectations in priority above getting to know the students, and inspire them w the topic.bad professor- AVOI

This was a great class. Prof Freeland covers a lot of ground in her lectures, and they are always interesting and provocative. The reading was managable and grading seemed fair. I got a lot out of the class. I would recommend her.

Avoid prof. Freeland at all cost! this is obviously merely subjective opinion, but she was the WORST professor i have had in college thus far. her lectures are boring, bland and fruitless; she does not even attempt to develop a relationship with the class and overall she is a very ineffective teacher. bad baaad baaaad teacher!

Ok, I am really sad at all the comments I have read about professor Freeland. In case you all didn't know or didn't care enough, she is freakin brilliant!! You don't go to Harvard for a Bachelors and Yale for a PHD and graduate "ignorant!" Yes, she is a hard teacher but you can truly learn alot from her class!! I loved this class!!

Comment:
Natalka Freeland is not a tough grader, no. She is just ignorant. Example: The thesis for my paper was about a "microcosm" of two events. I flunked this essay because my thesis was not "representative". I had to e-mail these two broads the lexical definition of "microcosm" because they didn't know "representative" was a part of the definition. WOW!
