Dr. James Elias was a great professor! I had taken him in the Summer of 2014. My very first class at CSUN! I learned a lot from him. He is very knowledgeable and articulate. Sadly, he retired. He will be missed! There won't be anyone like him. He broke the bounds of a professor. Godspeed! :-)

Good professor, always tries to entertain students while teaching. You don't really have to take any notes in class, all the articles and powerpoints are on moodle so to pass his tests you should read all the articles and understand all the main points on the powerpoints. Got extra points on the random days he took roll so go to class!

Very nice and easy going professor. 1 test he changed from multiple choice to a paper which was easier. 1 midterm paper. Last exam is 50 multiple choice questions. Easy class and a lot of interesting material. Saw a couple of films. Would recommend this class and professor.

I'm not a Soc major but I'm taking it as my collateral. What's expected of you is pretty straightforward and the majority of the stuff is interesting. I enjoyed the videos we watched and the two papers he assigns aren't too bad.

His tests do not reflect his powerpoints in class. Do not expect an easy A! He also has no energy to really teach the material, so you have to do the reading yourself. Easy class if you just want to pass, but not an easy A.

Took this course online- professor Elias has clear guidelines, but there is alot of videos to watch and articles to read. Tests are tough even having read the chapters and watchedread the extras. Only a few easy assignments and gives away easy points for just participating.

He is a pretty great professor! He outlines the chapters for you in class, that you MUST read for the tests. HE PROVIDES the textbook for you! There are four exams and two papers - three to four pages each. Pretty straightforward as long as you put the effort! He makes class fun, which is a big plus!

His lectures are informational and interesting. I didn't really see the connection between culture and personality much. There were many theories and examples presented but the explanations weren't there. It was pretty easy for a summer class. The term paper was simple and clearly structured

Took his class over the summer. Learned a lot and the material also helped in some of my fall classes. He gave us five quizzes and our final was a term paper. He provides you with a copy of the text he uses.

Can you say the most amazing person ever?! He is so calm yet entertaining and you actually learn. He provides PowerPoint notes in class and on moodle too and the exams are based off the study guides. Very fair grader and has a great sense of humor! You will not regret taking him!

Slow speaker but covers a lot of material. Very helpful, posts book, notes, AND outline on moodle. If you've taken any psych or soc classes, this is the easiest A there is. Requires a term paper entirely unrelated to the course. Four non-cumulative tests, a breeze if you read the outlines. Really easy, but not a whole lot of fun. Pads your GPA!

100 points for 10 homework assignments, 100 for 4 tests for a total of 500. Need to do well on the tests and they are a bit tricky. Homework is very easy. Not much extra credit. Contact TA if you need help. Highly recommend taking it online.

I took his online course and the format is extremely easy to understand and the syllabus is clear cut and he stays on schedule. The class has 3 exams and three short essays you must do well on them to get a good grade but its not hard. the book is a must for those assignments. Take this class online & enjoy!

Professor Elias is a wealth of information! I am not in the MFT program (1/2 of the class was...) and found it easy to keep up and maintain an excellent grade! He makes the class fun by having guest speakers and showing movies. He kept my attention the whole semester!

Haha, I love his sense of humor! Relaxed, laid back old guy. Even though he's old, he's never boring. Always finds a way to make lectures interesting. His assistant, Karen, was helpful and nice. Your grade is only based off of 4 multiple choice tests. He gives you study guides before each test. Overall, good class.
