Jim is an amazing person. He really explains what he is looking for, and helps out in ways that don't belittle you. He is very specific in what he is looking for, but it's ok because he'll guide you there. Take a class with him before he retires - because it is one of the best classes you'll ever have.

Great teacher. Knows a lot but will be happiest if you try to express yourself. I was in a class with a lot of art majors and it was intimidating, but he knows how to focus on the positives about your art even if you're not very good. The class is fun and you should do great if you just try, and remember to ask for help!

I've trememdously enjoyed taking his classes. He's very encouraging and interested in helping you express yourself. Don't try to BS your way through his class, though. Doesn't take kindly to people who aren't serious about it. Long critiques, good advice given though. Tends to repeat self, but that means you won't forget anything.

I hate him, he only cares about himself..I am not an art major and can not draw and doesnt help or speak to me just talk to people in the class who are really good at drawing...if you cant draw DO not take his course, he will make you feel even worse..
