Professor Fasching taught by continually challenging us to think for ourselves. We had to learn not only the concepts, but how they worked together. His interest in chemistry and how we used it prepared me well for my sucessful Chemical Engineering career.

Comment:

He is a VERY sweet&kind man (kinda looks like Santa Claus) but it is chem and very hard but he does care and is very understanding. Best chem teacher I ever had. Got an A- as another teacher would've given me a C at best. God bless him! This was back in the mid 1990s so it is dated. But you'll be hard pressed to find a better teacher those days.

I learned nothing! He goes thru a powerpoint in 1 min. Has quizzes every class. The only way I did ok was going to the study sessions before the tests, they helped so much. He will be retiring after the fall 07 semister, but if you have him you will not learn one thing.

He is absolutely horrible at explaining problems. He expects you to know what he is doing even when he skips a few steps in the process of problem solving. Even he sometimes doesn't know what he is doing. Watch out for the pop up quizzes, familiarize yourself with the material before class and always attend the helpful TA sessions specialized for t

He gives many quizes so you "have to go to class" but if you come 15 min before class is over and take the quizes you will be fine. He has assigned seats in the auditorium. His partial credit multiple choice tests are pretty easy if you are good at learning from the book or if you already taken chem.

He's a really sweet old man...but he shouldn't be teaching. It's hard to understand him, & sometimes he loses himself mid-problem. It's very easy to get an A in this class because there's partial credit multiple choice & cheat sheets, but you definitely won't learn anything unless you're very committed to the book and are able to teach yourself.

I had also heard bad things about him but figured I could handle it...NOT AT ALL. Goes through slide shows in 5 minutes on the chapter and then talks about his family. I learned nothing from this man and the book was my safe haven.

I felt bad for him, I really did... He's so old and has so many problems. But they don't help me learn chemistry! You'll have to learn from the book, because his lectures will not make sense. But there is a quiz nearly every class. I do not recommend him!

Fasching is a nice guy, but can't teach. You can't understand what he says or read what he writes on the overhead because his handwriting is so bad. You can still get an A though if you teach yourself form the book. He also gives out lots of extra credit points on the tests and the quizzes are group work just to check for attendance.

fasching is a dead person that's running on fumes. you can't understand anything he says- but you have to go to his class because theres a quiz EVERY class. his lectures are seriously a waste of your life. It's a lose lose situation too, because the other chm 101 class is harder.
