I took Literature from this guy 30 years ago (It's been so long i had to make up a number). Are we really that old? Yikes! Anyway, it's nice to see he hasn't lost his touch!

You have the opportunity to learn so much from this man who is very involved outside the university in what he teaches (writing). He's professional and smart. Will help any student who asks, goes out of his way to benefit you.

Garvey is an awesome professor. But he doesn't read the canterbury tales in old english! He reads it in MIDDLE ENGLISH! Old english is replaced by middle english in the 14th century. Thus, Chaucer is writing in London Middle English.

Garvey is one of the sweetest professors at ASU. He loves input from students during lectures and answers questions with enthusiasm. He grades assignments fairly and gives good feedback. Great teacher for the first humanities because he knows old english; get him to read Cantebury Tales in old english: it's hilarious!

I don't know what the others are talking about. Garvey talks down to students and makes you feel like an idiot. He and other professors sometimes talk amongst themselves and class is left wondering "what about us?" He berates students who don't live up to his standards and doesn't reward those who work hard. Run as fast as you can from this class!!

Great professor. Understanding about family crises. Very knowledgable, makes for a great learning experience and entertainment WHEN he has stuff prepared. Sometimes you'll find yourself asking why you're sitting there while he goes around the room advising people.

Dr. Garvey rocks! His class is soooo easy.Humn isn't an easy class to take, but he makes it as easy as he can.You get to use book and outline on mid-term and final, plus you get the topic in advance--Profs. didn't do that in 2001.Read and you'll be fine.quiz each class, but really easy!

This guy is the standard to which professors should be held. His teachings are always insightful, and he's incredibly down-to-earth. His daily quizzes were a little difficult for me - even when I read thoroughly - but they were more for attendance than grading. A wonderful professor.

He's a great prof- he makes his subject interesting, and he's not above admitting he doesn't know the answer to a question. He's VERY helpful, and has always been willing to offer advice on papers, projects, etc. He explores subjects deeper and provokingly than most people would. Great choice!

Thought provoking. Interesting lectures. Great public speaking skills--makes poetry come alive. One of the few literature faculty who get what interdisciplinary studies is supposed to be about.
