Comment:

Hanlan is a great lecturer, he keeps you interested in the material and even makes you excited to read the assignment for next class. Be prepared to read every night. The reading assignments will vary from 20 pages a night to as much as 100. You have to come to class with a one-page 'essay.' I say 'essay' because it's a single page. Great teacher!

Comment:

Kept my interest in lectures and quizzes were fair. Tests required a lot less critical thinking than most engineers are used to and more memorization. The provided study guides were very helpful. We did a considerable amount of reading that we were quizzed on, so it was important to read the whole thing. Overall, I really enjoyed this class.

Decently engaging lectures. Two midterms. For the first one, I didn't use his study guides and very barely passed, relying just on my notes (after extra credit). However, for the second one, I prepared with his study guides and got a perfect score. Success is based on memorizing; alright class, but not a lot of critical thinking needed to get an A.

Good professor. He's clear in lectures and kept my attention. I was never bored in class. You have to read 5 books outside of class throughout the term for this class, but there is no homework other than that. Exams are pretty easy as long as you take good notes and study. Gives some extra credit.

Awesome teacher. Although is a little biased at times (liberal) he really knows his stuff and the way he says things makes you remember them. History is usually boring but he makes it interesting, also he is pretty funny too haha. Definitely take a history class with him.

This guy is the best teacher I have had here at WPI. He makes his classes laugh with his impressions of the people he's talking about, and adds little amusing facts. The reading is strenuous, but it gets better as the term goes on. Take his class.

Very good teacher overall. I like how he puts his powerpoints online before the actual class. He is very helpful if you go to talk to him and you can tell he knows his stuff. Fair class overall, but a lot of reading.

Professor Hanlan was a good teacher. His tests were fairly easy and very straight forward. He offered a lot of extra credit. There was, however, a lot of reading for his class. A little spacey at points, but a good teacher in the end.
