Dr Kirkland doesn't give the most interesting lectures, but he is a nice guy and the class is super easy. Come to class, study the night before his 2 tests, and don't wait till the last minute to do your interviews and write your paper and you'll have an easy A. The book is "mandatory" but you don't need it.

Absolutely love Dr. Kirkland! I had him for shorts stories & American Folklore & wish there were more classes I could take from him. He is extremely sweet & is always there if you need help! He is the kind of professor I will definitely stay in contact with after college. I highly recommend his class. I got an A in both. Go to class & do the work.

Kirkland is one of the sweetest professors I've ever met. He makes it a priority to know everyone's name and the course load is very light. You gradually work on all the assignments and don't turn them in until the end of the semester, but you still have conferences with him so you still know what he wants in your papers! So sweet!

Dr. Kirkland is one of the best English professors I've had at ECU. This was my second semester taking a class with him. He knows the material and you can tell he truly cares about his students. He's very flexible and the only effort you have to put into the class is doing the readings. Take him if you get the chance!

He is the sweetest man at ECU! Very nice- genuinely cares about his students. I have had to go to his office several times to get help with papers. Not only was he very helpful, but I ended up sitting and chatting for awhile. Take him if you can! Fair grader and gives you the freedom to write about what you choose, for the most part.
