This guy is absolutely awesome. The class is fascinating and he's such a nice and endearing guy, it's a pleasure to hear him lecture. He knows so much! It's worth it to work hard on tests and quizzes when you know you've got a fantastic professor like him.

Prof. Loy is one of the best professors I've had thus far. Interesting, fun, and engaging class and teacher! His expectations are completely fair, and he's very helpful and funny. I'm even more interested in anthro than I was before, and it's my major! I'm so glad I got to take a class with him, and I will be sad to see him retire!

The reason I'm an anthropology major! I was undeclared before taking human origins. Funny, fun, engaging. Sometimes gets confusing but will clarify himself. Great guy.

AMAZING! I'm an anthro major and his human origins class was awesome. He knew what he was talking about and makes the class interesting. Weekly quizzes are tough so reading the chapter is necessary. Tests are easier because you go over the material so much.

Even though I am an Anthro Major, I still was shocked at how awesome this class was. Professor Loy made Math Majors care about Human Origins and was flexible and helpful when the material proved challenging. He does one heck of a "gibbon" call and I definitely felt like my choice of major was vindicated!

He wrote the book for this class-enough said, He knows what he?s talking about cuz he wrote it! His humor & obvious passion for the subject made it my favorite class even though I have no interest in the subject. It?s a challenge but I learned a lot & will miss it so much! He's a truly great man & teacher at the same time, which is hard to come by!

Jim is my advisor, and let me be clear: He is a wonderful, thoughtful, hilarious, and charismatic professor and a prince among men. He is very straight forward with his expectations (which are completely doable and fair). His lectures are fun, he does a killer gibbon warning call, and his preparation and love of the subject make me smile ear to ear

Very funny guy! Helpful, fair grader. Go to class every day, unless you already have a fair grasp on the material (evolution and basic genetics). Doesn't take attendance, and you don't REALLY need to read the book but its helpful. Really enjoyed this class, and decided to major in anthropology because of him!

Required to go to class, if only for the fact that exams are based on notes. Quizzes once a week, based on the chapters of the book. Funny guy, makes class interesting, has funny sayings and loved Darwin. Unless you're seriously interested in all things connecting apes to humans, don't take.

Go to class and take notes. If you aren't a good multiple choice test taker, you may want to consider something else. He is not difficult to listen to, despite the sometimes dry subject matter.

Quiz every week (five multiple-choice), three exams (about 30 multiple-choice each). Very good professor, very knowledgeable, the Gibbons greeting call is pretty funny. I ended up with a lower grade than expected though. Make sure to study for the exams and quizzes.
