Comment:
James is extremely knowledgeable about Chemistry, however, he doesn't do a good job of dumbing it down for a 100 level course. He also doesn't do a good job of reviewing or asking if class has questions. His tests often have random tiny bits of information that you barely talk about in class, rather than the main points that he actually repeats.

He was my advisor for my major, and was rude to me. I did my best, but had a challenging time due to work and a disability. Instead of being helpful, he implied that I was a waste of a seat when signing up for classes because I was struggling.

Does an alright job teaching context but when it comes to interaction between Dr. Rife and students, he is very rude and makes you feel very unintelligent in class. He is also a very tough grader, someone I know put the exact same thing as me for a lab and while the other person got an A, I got a C. (They had a different professor)

Dr. Rife is an amazing person. He's very helpful and super passionate. He honestly wants his students to succeed and is an all-around great person! Chemistry is tough no matter what, but Dr. Rife helps to make it so much better, I highly recommend him as a professor! He's super helpful and understands the difficulty of the material. GREAT PROF

Dr. Rife's study guides for the exam were extremely helpful, there were never any surprises. He is one of the nicest professors that I have ever had and he cares about your success. He also knows all his student's by their first name. He offers extra credit and review sessions. Put in the extra effort and he will bump your grade. Amazing teacher!

Rife is a great professor in general, however, his study guides for tests are nothing like the tests and he will say we don't have to memorize somethingit won't be on the test then it is. I never know what to expect on tests and quizzes. But I would definitely take him over Salerno or Quick Dorr.

Comment:
Rife is not a bad teacher to go with, but the study guides he provides are altered quite a bit from the actual tests and the things he goes over in review may often not be found in his test so you got to make sure you have a broad understanding of the course. I would highly recommend him over Salerno because he is much nicer and she is often harsh

Very knowledgeable guy, who LOVES chemistry. A lot of info is given out during one lecture, so skipping is really not an option because you want good notes of your own. Definitely a tough class, but if you work for it you can do well. He is also very helpful and good at explaining when you need it. I would recommend him!

Best professor I've ever had. Went into the class thinking i would have to drop at some point, but Rife explains material so well I made it though. More than willing to answer questions. It's chemistry so you will obviously have to study. He really made me question my major... just for a moment though.

Great professor. Very consistent with real world expectations. He cares more about your understanding and execution of the subject and cuts the rest of the BS. He is also very approachable. He will meet you where you are and work with you step by step. As stated before he cuts the BS with you; show some respect and do the same for him.

Dr. Rife is probably my favorite professor from the chemistry department. He knows what he is talking about and he is a good guy as well. This course was the easiest 400 level chem/bio course that I've taken. Basic understanding of organic and analytical chemistry is all that is needed to do well. Lab is also very easy and is often done very early

Dr.Rife is by far the best professor I've had at MSU. He knows his classroom of 300+ students all by first name.He knows what he is talking about and is more then willing to help his students. Test and Quizes are not easy by any means, but if you study you will do fine. If you can get Rife, take him!

Easily the hardest entry level chemistry course on campus. Total Quiz scores replace lowest test grade. Great instruction! Don't mix this course with other tedious courses. Most of your time will be devoted to studying and applying concepts A LOT, essentially working for a difficult B. Take only if you have to!

I loved this guy, he was great. he's hillarious with all the expressions and funny actions and comments he does and says. He's very helpful and friendly, and one of my favorite profs. Biochem 2 required alot more use of the book, i barely used it at all for biochem 1. a moderately tough class, but know everythin on his study guide and you'l be fine

1st, I have to comment on the entry previous to mine. To that person, you're probably an idiot because while he can be a bit disorganized sometimes, he ALWAYS uploads assignments w/ ample time YOU were too lazy to inquire about said assignments, this is college, no one holds your hand thru college. Dr. Rife is a GREAT prof, VERY easy to work w/! A+

This guy is to lazy to upload homework until the night before the project is due. Doesn't really go over things clear enough to get labs done properly. Grading is tough, docs points for spelling errors. Would not recommend.
