Dr. Rodde is not the finest choir director you'll find, given the position at a school much more renowned for engineering and agriculture. But given the limited resources the university provides him with, he does a great job. He explains what he wants in easy ways for everyone to understand. He makes choir fun yet great quality.

Dr. Rodde really is a fantastic choir director. Despite his forgetfulness (which may be because of his age) he does some really amazing things with his group(s), and does a fantastic job of making really meaningful music/ experiences. Don't take choir if you're not very passionate about it, but if you have the passion, You will not be dissapointed.

Dr. Rodde has always been passionate about his men's choir, and Statesmen is driven to succeed because of his passion. His mood varies day to day, but he's generally proud and pushes the guys to sing better. The music can sometimes be dull, but his enthusiasm rarely wavers and that helps. Stay on his good side and enjoy your time in choir!

Demands excellence at the expense of his singers' well-being, in a way that makes you feel you're not good enough unless you're perfect. This is fine for a few semesters but hurts your voice long term. The choir produces great sound because of his focus on blending and tone, but, he is strangely oblivious to the emotional realities of being human.

Dr. Rodde is incredible at what he does. He's very organized and makes the best use of rehearsal time. Choir has and continues to turn me into a better musician and it challenges me to dive into the nuances and meaning of our music. As long as you stay engaged and don't get on his bad side, he's a really kind and encouraging director

Probably the best chorus director I have ever had. He takes people from all around campus with a same interest and gives them a chance to do something amazing. He is funny and will make you laugh during class but is serious when it comes down to it. You can tell that he loves what he does. Take his class and he will make you a better singer.

Wonderful director that gets the most out of his students. Uses trial and error to find the best sound for each specific choir. Makes each semester and each group very different than any other, and each year provides a new experience. Try not to do or say anything stupid and stay on his good side, and the class will be a blast.

Dr. Rodde is great! I love going to choir every day. In fact, it is my favorite class. Dr. Rodde is so committed to doing the best he can to make the group sound good, and because of that, the choir is an exceptional one to be in.

I've been in Singers for a few years now. Rodde is 100% dialed in to the music. This is both good and bad. Good because you know no conductor will work as hard as he will to get you prepared... Bad because he sometimes will forget that members of the choir have other aspects of their lives to deal with outside of State Singers. Worth it overall.
