I'm amazed at the whiney complaints here. If you are in a college level choir, you should be expected to follow strict rules and mandatory attendance at rehearsals and performances. She's not 'mean" for holding you to higher standards - it is what should be expected of responsible college level students. My advice - grow up or get out of the way!

Kathleen is awful. She is so mean to me, and one of my friends in the choir. The class never had a day to meet anyone, and we barely know her. The only reason I know my friend is because we sit next to each other. She seems really nice and happy around the group but she is very rude and stand offish one-on-one.

Kathleen is a wonderful professor! She always helps the choir understand and create beautiful music. She is very understanding and takes the time to get to know each member of the choir. Kathleen puts her heart into her work and has inspired me to reach for the stars.

I loved this class every day I participated! I looked forward to coming to choir because I always loved seeing Kathleen and making beautiful music. My only complaint is that I wish the class had been 3 times a week and not 2. I always had fun in choir, even though it is a lot of work! Performing in concerts always made it worth it though. :)

I. LOVED. CHOIR. Kathleen is such an inspirational woman, and she always does her best to make choir fun. She uses all of classtime efficiently but still makes time for a joke or two. She's serious when it comes to music though, so be prepared to make some beautiful sound! I can't imagine my ISU career without her in my life. Definitely recommend!!

Her expectations were clear at the beginning of the semester - come to class, participate, show up to the concerts, and you'll get an A in the class. Those who chose to not attend these mandatory sessions are the ones who did poorly in the class. In the end, requirements are meant to prepare you for the concert. Nothing unusual for choir. A+

Kathleen is a strong, personable, respectful, and courageous person. She always tries her best to get to know you and listen to you. She loves and respects her choirs for all the hard work they give her. I've never met a kinder or more caring professor when it comes to the quality of performance or relationship with her students. HIGHLY recommend!!

SO AMAZING. Kathleen is one of the most caring professors I've had at ISU. She is so talented at what she does, and she does everything she can to make choir as fun and musical as she can. She challenges us with wonderful music selections, and she's so happy at every rehearsal!

Kathleen is an outstanding conductor at Iowa State. She is so passionate about women's choir, and she truly cares about making music while also making it enjoyable for everyone who is a part of it. She always allows the women in choir to voice their opinions and make musical decisions, and she goes above and beyond to develop a sense of community!!

Although she acts happy and giddy during class, she is extremely rude when talking one-on-one and will not hesitate to drop your grade significantly if she catches you on your phone just ONCE. She has strict rules yet doesn't provide a syllabus to outline them and throws a fit when even the smallest thing doesn't go her way. Would NOT recommend.

She expects the best from her students, and if you're not ready or willing to commit to that expectation, then choir isn't for you. Honest and straight to the point, and she'll ask the same of you. Is sweet if you're dedicated but vicious if you give her the impression that you don't care. Work hard and you'll be fine. You won't last long if you don't.

Comment:

Kathleen is a very music-centered individual. This is really good for conducting choir, but not helpful with other conflicts. She is not very understanding of prior commitments, but improved over the course of the year. Attendance is MANDATORY; my roommate was required to perform with pneumonia in January. She is very sweet though.
