This was the hardest class I took during my college years but I learn the most from this class. 85% of the stuff he talks about is not on the test, the stuff you are suppose to read is on there. I liked his stories and his philosophy of twaching. He is that one teacher in the CJ major that no one wants to take but if you focus you will BE FINE

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!! Could I be anymore clear? I have done very well in all of my writing classes however have almost failed each of his papers. He wont give you any constructive feedback but will merely nit pick small grammar mistakes. This guy is a complete control freak & this was the WORST class i have ever taken.

I carry a 3.9 GPA and rarely, if ever, miss class. I truly love learning and am not one of those people who complain just for the sake of it. But trust me, this professor is HORRIBLE. He has taught me nothing and his assignments are bogus. DO NOT TAKE HIM!

He is a helpful professor, but I feel some of the material he throws out is out of the realm of what is necessary to be learning for the topic. Study the reviews and make sure to do well on the paper and you will be alight at the end of the class.

I got an A- in this class and all I did was show up to class. He gave opportunities to receive extra credit and doubled it the second time. His tests are 50 ?'s(so 2pts each ?), and the 2nd test he doubled the extra credit to 10 pts plus another 3 in class ex. credit pts so we got an extra 26 credit pts on our 2nd test. Do the review sheets!

He is a tough professor, however, if you attend, participate and do the homework you will do fine. I had him for 2 classes and got A's in both. Those that complain are probably the ones that were always late and never participated. Make sure to read, and you will do fine! He takes a real interest in his students before and after his class.

To say that this professor is fair and reasonable would be a joke. Dr. Ruiz is a former police administrator turned paper jockey who lives not in the real world, but in the world of strict data and not what really works. So too are his requirements for class. If you take him online, you might want to live on his forum, or expect poor participation.

If you are looking forward to having a lower GPA; take his class! Seriously, his tests are very detail oriented; I would suggest you memorize the material... And by material I mean all of the text he assigns (every word of it). This professor is in dire need of a wake up call. Avoid at all costs.

He's definitely a tough professor, but not unreasonable. The people who gave him a bad rating and/or bad comments probably didn't try very hard in the class or follow his directions. If you think you're going to slide by and not study hard, he's definitely going to make your GPA suffer. He expects high quality work, which all professors should.

He is tough, but he makes the class worthwhile & you actually learn the material because you HAVE to. Grad school isn't supposed to be easy. He does what's right by the student. Don't be intimidated by his demeanor..he really is a great guy who cares about whether or not you learn something in his class. Simply pay attention & do what is asked.

He is just as difficult as people say he is. What maes him dfficult is not that the work is challenging, but that theres too much, it redundant and he's not helpful. Maybe he was an awesome police officer but hes not an awesome professor no matter how smart he is.

Pros: His accent is so cool. He's kinda funny. Smart. Hears opinions. Cons: Grades with emotion. Slighly mean personality. Warning: If your life does not revolve around his class you wont make an A. RIDICULOUS, unecessary workload. Work fast and often to balance everything.

He is not by any means the easiest professor. However he is not as difficult as some people are describing. The workload is heave, and he does expect a lot from you, however if you do not wait until the last minute to complete them its perfectly manageable. Just follow these two simple rules, follow his instructions to the letter, and participat

Dr. Ruiz is not a difficult teacher like everyone says. It’s simple. Follow his instructions, do the work, and study for his test and you will do well. Slack off and don’t come to class, or participate, and you will do badly. The work load is high compatible to other classes, but is not unmanageable. Your grad will reflect your effort.

Ruiz is a great teacher who you can learn a lot from. Make sure you do what is asked of you and you'll be on his good side. Work load is a little on the heavy side but if you study, read, and complete the papers it can be an easy A.
